HAIII!! this is Rusty's guide to exploring kewl places!!!! im not an expert or anything but i love to explore places, especially cemeteries, forests, abandoned houses and factories and old bunkers. so i thought it would be nice to make a blog for you about the topic, so how i usually find cool places, what you can and cant do in them!
also im gonna share some kewl photos, all taken by me :3

☆ what/who to bring?
usually i go alone, sometimes with my lil sister or a friend! its nice to bring a friend or couple to help out or just have fun w you. good thing about being alone is that less attention is drawn to you and you move faster.
but trust me, there have been times when a friend has really come in handy when ive had to reach up high and climb over a wall or fence!
u can check my other blog abt whats in my bag, but basically u need something to eat and drink, flashlight, first aid kit (or just bandages n maybe painkillers, disinfectant) also i have a swiss army knife and a travel charger, its very good when you usually cant charge on the go. money is also good to have but not necessary! sometimes i look for bottles or soda/beer cans and return them and get a deposit for them. good if you can pawn the bottles there where u live!!
☆ where to find?
i live in the countryside and here there are a lot of abandoned houses, barns and so on. in general, there are abandoned factories in quieter areas, in remote areas there can be whole small abandoned villages. also following the train tracks / railroads u will find super cool places, trust me!!
the best are the old train tracks that are no longer in use, remember that the train tracks are usually electrified and electricity can "hop" from the track far away (u can get a dangerous electric shock), the trains are quiet and you won't hear them until its too late. the air pressure of a passing train is so strong that it knocks over someone standing meters away and the noise is temporarily deafening.
☆ what can i do there?
my most common activities: i draw, take pictures, listen to music, drink energy drinks and soda, snack, make graffiti and tag!!
u can also sometimes skate or parkour there if you know how!
☆ what i should NOT do?
dont leave trash in nature! dont break glass, or break and sabotage places unnecessarily. doing graffiti could count as sabotage but to me its a form of anarchist art and i totally allow it. if i see swastikas or other stupid shit, i'll screw it up tho. but often i love to see when people have put stickers like "fuck the nazis" or "happy pride!" in places. and also look how kewl they are!!?
(yes, there are also tags like "penis" but thats just harmless fun! like who hasn't drawn a dick on the wall of the school restroom..)
☆ what should i watch out for?
ive heard that abandoned places are unfortunately common places for harmful people, especially if they are more in an urban area. but where i live, there aren't really any drug dealers or anything like that, maybe some harmless homeless people. my parents still warn me about it and i often dont tell them where im really going!
like i dont think any criminal would really be able to waste their time in some abandoned house in random weekend evening..
take good shoes, because there may be broken glass or at worst, syringes on the ground. long pants and long sleeves or a jacket/hoodie is good because at least i often walk through bushes and long grass or climb over or go under fences and get into tight spots. so long clothes protect against scratches, ticks and mosquito bites on a summer night!
also sometimes abandoned factories are close to factories that are still working, and there may be guards walking around.
☆ is it illegal?
it varies. painting graffiti is, trespassing is, and even if you dont do any real harm you can still be suspected (like for using drugs as these places are also known popular w homeless drug addicts). this is why i avoid getting caught and so far i have been successful!! when moving around in the dark, i wear dark clothes and i dont play music in places im not yet familiar with, and i dont make loud noise anyway!
☆ EXTRA!! the coolest abandoned places i know! ☆
-abandoned hospital
-two abandoned schools near each other, -surprisingly these are right in the urban area :0
-an abandoned kindergarten, burned down in a fire before i could even go there but my sister went there and showed me pictures.. D:
-abandoned bus station, epic!
-an entire abandoned village next to an old limestone quarry. you could enter some of the houses, so fascinating!!!
-old bunkers from the winter war, the best place to do graffiti >_< my all time favorite!!

do you have any tips for exploring alone? theres a few abandoned places by me but im kinda of scared cause i have no one to go with. Do you ever go alone?
yes i go, actually pretty often!! but if its a place ive never been before AND its at an area im not familiar with, i avoid going alone.. if i have no one to go with tho, i just tell my friend or sister (in my case not my parents cuz they wouldnt like that at all) where im going to and when. then i make sure that im prepaded for everything, like i know how big is the area i will be exploring and its a good weather outside! and i would NOT go there at night!!! ^_^b

Very helpful!! (*´ω`*) I'm definitely adding exploring to my to-do list, seems like so much fun x3! Plus I've kinda wanted to do it for a while now but I've just been putting it to the side cause I wouldn't know where to start.
I'd really wanna find some spooky abandoned place and make up a story for why it was left. (I'd probably not go alone tho, I get scared pretty easily lmao (´｡;ω;`))

It's a good post. I personally don't do graffiti, but if I'm exploring a place and there's a cool piece of art on the walls, it can really add to a place. I think the morality of it depends on the location. Abandoned military places are big, samey concrete buildings and the walls are basically asking to be a canvas. But if it's some dead old ladies house, it should be treated with respect.

oh, i want to visit different abandoned places, but i'm a little afraid of guards (in my area we often have guards there, but it depends on your luck)

i think its not bad to be prepared!! i dunno know what kinda area u live in but depending on it, its usually just good! i myself have always been REALLY interested in exploring and luckily ive never got in trouble or danger cuz like when i was little i prob should have been a little more careful and prepared..

The amount of stuff i heard of abandoned places being haunted, i mean, i can explore abandon railway stations, but if you suggest i check out an abandoned hospital or mental ward, fuck that shit!, i don't want the ghost of a mentally insane person coming to take my soul to god knows where, but if it's like abandoned shops or coffee shops all is good, houses are also not safe, you don't know that maybe the abandoned house your checking out has a D A R K past, so yeah, any abandoned place is safe AS LONG as it is not residential places, or places for the mentally ill.
Or abandoned schools, just like the houses, you don't know what dark history lurks in those places!

well i personally dont believe in ghosts or that kinda stuff, and i never been in an abandoned mental hospital (i dont think i'd find one here) but yeah, just a hospital, a school and also in a house whose owner had just died a while ago (not in a tragic way or anything, just because of old age tho). i also doubt that there arent mentally ill persons there but thanks for the warning anyway!! ^_^"

Omg thank you so much for making this!! I've been wanting to go urban exploring but I didn't really know where to start and my parents can track my phone lolol
ur welcome!! and yeah feel u, my parents do that too and are really strict anyway.. but i always find a way! like i go to a place where im allowed to be (like at my friend's) and turn off my phone. my location stays there cuz they cant track a phone thats shutted off!
or i just leave my phone with at home, in do not disturb mode or completely off. yea sometimes my parents get mad about this and i understand too if you cant do this! (or if u dont need to do this, thats the best!) but good luck with exploring ^_^

I just started getting into graffiti. and unfortunately I find few places where you can draw them... and the post is cool.
thanks a lot!! also some tips if u need, start w small pieces or tagging, spray paint can be expensive so stealing is okay (just dont get caught!), make or get yourself a unique name and DONT paint over someone elses piece!!
the best places imo are abandoned houses, factories, walls and fences, warehouses, railways, poles like street poles. also please dont use small doodles like crown or halo if u dont know what they mean! have fun!!! ^_^

i would love to explore places like this but were i live is really dangerous. i tried to do a short film for class in an abandoned building but it was kinda scary! Loved this blog, stay safe!! c:
