It's currently 1:14 am in Cleveland where I live.
I just had a very interesting thought. So, I'll share it here.
Is this a safe space? I hope so.
Back in the early 2000's when I was super young on social media, long distance dating was a thing that we spoke of but it didn't really exist. By exist I mean, it was not actually possible to realistically date someone who lived clear across the country when you're a 12 year old with internet. Yes, the relationship felt real in our hearts and minds. My mother would not let me travel to meet my online boyfriend. That just was not an option at the time. No amount of texting, calling, AIMing, skyping/ oovooing would change the fact that we were two 12 year old's in "love" living across the country from each other.
NOW!
Fast forward to 2021, I'm currently 27 years young. Similar situations can [have not] arise. IF I was to meet a young man that I am fond of, realistically I have the means to make the decision to travel to meet this special person. I could get a charming message from someone, begin to chat with them, exchange numbers, chat more. What are these feelings?!?! Do I like him? Yes. Yes, I do. We start talking on the phone and FaceTiming every. single. day. Every time my phone lights up, I hope it's him. We start talking about seeing each other in person more seriously. He makes the decision to travel to Cleveland or I make the decision to travel to him...EITHER WAY, I am an ADULT. I CAN do that IF I wanted to.
Has anyone else ever thought of this?
When you were young in your puppy love relationships, did you ever get to meet your person? Have you as an adult successfully had a long distance relationship?
I. NEED. ANSWERS.

Yes, I can totally relate. I had several little puppy love back in the day. My mother scared each one of them away with the swiftness. I even tried writing a love letter and mailing it out. She ended up seeing it in the mailbox and reading it and telling my business to her friends and family. So embarrassing.
But yes now that I'm good and grown, own place I can accomodate whatever and travel whenever. I recently went through a breakup. He lives in Texas, me in Cleveland. It was nice while it lasted.
Ooooohhhh. I am SO sorry that your mother did that to you.

Oh no worries, I just learned really quickly to be sneakier. Won't be no ones fool twice. LOL

Man. RIGHT. What age would you say this happened? I became super sneaky at around the summer before 7th grade myself.

Yup, middle school seems about right. SMH. But I understand that my mother isn't perfect, she's human and made mistakes. She only did the best way she thought she knew.

Nice to read! Would you do it if he’s from Africa?
Thank you! Definitely depends on the person and [our] unique connection.

I just saw these replies, but I hung out with family and ate desserts. It's cool to meet other Clevelanders on here :))
