Tool Live 1996 "The Glasshouse"

The year is 1996...

Tool had, up to that point, released two albums. One EP and one LP. Opiate in 1992 and Undertow in 1993. It was safe to say that they were a pretty large band at the time, especially when you compare them to the other bands that saturated this era of music.

In 1996, Tool dropped what is (in my own and several other peoples opinion) their best album to date; Ænima (a huge portion of the fanbase argues that 2001's Lateralus is their magnum opus, but I feel as though Ænima is the masterpiece both in sound and lyrics). Ænima took the rage and cynicism of Opiate and Undertow and sprinkled in what would be their calling card; psychedelic atmospheres, lyrics about out of body experiences and drugs. It wasn't saturated like Lateralus is, rather teased. Lateralus is, without a doubt, a seminal album in Progressive Metal, but I feel that it is sometimes a bit too much. I have to be in a very specific mood to listen to Lateralus or anything from Lateralus.

Now, before I get ahead of myself, this is where the show comes in. It is the first live show of a tour in support of the release of Ænima, Maynard comically says that the audience gets the worst show in the tour because nothing is polished but I highly oppose this statement. The show is the epitome of TOOL. Everything goes right (besides some dickhead yelling "THIRD EYE, YIGGIE!!!" before every song besides Third Eye...)

It is the best concert I have never been to and you all should watch it:
