watamote and my thoughts!

finally got around to watching watamote!

i... can't  say i really liked it? it was entertaining but i'd be very hesitant to call it a fan, to be honest.

i felt like i was in a flightreacts video. a lot of my enjoyment came from watching tomoko's actuons and being ASTONISHED.

every other thing she did made me think "GET YO FREAKY ASS HOME!!!!!" and there were several times where i genuinely looked around my (EMPTY) room (and kitchen and dining table) as if to say "is ANYONE ELSE seeing this??" as if all of her actions were playing out right in front of me.

i don't know if "secondhand embarrassment" is the right term, but i sure felt something watching this!!

i will say that it was entertaining, though. i don't know if i'd watch it again on my own, but i don't feel like it was a total waste.

i kind of let it run in the background, but i was still pretty engaged with it. it led to various moments where i looked away from the screen only to look back and see something WILD going on. there were a few scenes that made me raise an eyebrow, but fortunately only one that made me genuinely uncomfortable. (it was the one where she ate the banana. the way it was animated really threw me off.)

however, what i think genuinely bothered me was the ending. tomoko does not go ANYWHERE. maybe it's on me for expecting SOMETHING would happen, but she ends the series almost exactly where she starts, literally, and (much to my dismay) figuratively. you'd think "oh, she wants to socialize and make friends and become more confident. surely that'll happen SOMEHOW!"

and to its merit, she DOES! she "makes" (catches up with) ONE friend! and they hang out a couple of times.

i generally liked those moments, seeing tomoko genuinely get along with someone mutually. it was nice seeing her just kind of be normal, something it is made clear to the audience that she is not.

ultimately, if you're looking for a show with a main character who gets better and maybe drops bad habits, etc, do not watch this show.

if you aren't expressly looking for that, then go right ahead. 

overall score for this is 5.5/10, to be honest. i really wanted to like this one, too!!
