CW: Spoilers for Godzilla Minus One
I'm using the WISH Media Thread series of blog entries to proxy what I think are some of the best things I've seen since starting my media thread on Cohost. I'll link the original post at the bottom of each entry.
Godzilla Minus One
Watched this with some friends in Discord. There was a bit of talking during the earlier half but we all shut up as shit started to go down
This is the best movie I have ever seen.
I'm not even exaggerating. That is a throne that was held by Arrival for seven years. This blew that out of the water
This hurt in the most heartwrenching way. My heart was pounding the entire half of it. There's so much going on. Two hours of setup and a beautiful payload of emotion. Holy shit
I loved how they played out Shikishima's story and especially his interactions with Tachibana. You're watching someone break down entirely right in front of you, someone who barely deserves to be where he is in the first place. I can see why he did why he did and that entire last string of events just tugged and tugged so fucking hard
The visuals were raw. Immensely. Godzilla himself is beautiful; I think I would've liked it more in theaters from the audio side of things, but how he's portrayed and how his abilities are shown off is amazing. The scenes where he actually gets off a heat ray are impactful on both the visual and audio sides in a way I can't put into words
The soundtrack was solid, too; I loved the sea mine attack scene and the original stuff that was made for the movie. Speaking of I love how this movie hides information; normally, that's not something I'm a fan of, but in a setting like this, the twists his insanely hard because you go in expecting the movie to lay everything out in front of you
The ending was a bit strange, but it's still a satisfying conclusion to a beautiful ride. I can't even be mad I'm still in shock
I don't know if I want something to take that title from this anytime soon. The experience I had tonight was work of divinity. This is one of very very very very very few things in this world beautiful enough to me for me to say it's worth a perfect score
