What is a "Twin Flame"?

I believe that a twin flame is a one of a kind attachment to someone who you connect with on a physical; emotional; mental; and spiritual level. The kind of attachment where you can feel if the other person is in pain or something is wrong. The kind of attachment where you feel sick to your stomach only to realise that they feel it too. The kind of attachment where it doesn't matter how many miles are between you, you feel them right beside you. This kind of attachment transcends space and time itself, life and death.

I believe that everyone's soul is a part of a bigger whole. When we are born, we take a piece of this soul. Commonly, perhaps by the work of a cruel god, the other half of our soul is sent to another vessel because if we were to be born with the entirety of this soul we would be able to transcend to a higher level of thought and existence itself. As a result, we're cursed to roam the world longing to find our other half. Some do, and live fulfilled lives, whole. Others may never find their other half in one lifetime, and require multiple attempts in order to connect.

I have many ideologies surrounding "love" though this is my favourite. Because I believe that by design, we are imperfect creatures, so it would make sense that even the most beautiful feeling in which we're capable of would also share this trait. We're capable of great love and profound connection however we're unable to foster that connection until we meet our other half. I found a better half. This better half not only made me whole but elevated me to their level, made me a better person, inspired me, showed me a side to myself I never knew existed.

I'm forever grateful for the glimpse of who I could be.

How do you know when you've found your twin flame? Is it as cliché as it seems? Is it as simple as a glint in the eye from first glance? A spark in the first exchange? Or does it take time, are we blind to it at first? Is our creator so cruel that they'd prohibit us from truly knowing, perhaps until it's too late? I'm still figuring that out. But I do believe it is something you don't ever know, but it's something that you feel deep within. It's a law of attraction, a feeling of magnetism you feel to their electromagnetic field. You can't explain it, but you just want to be by their side, stand as an equal and live the rest of your life with them.

It's the type of person who can rekindle your flame when it's nothing more than a flickering ember of what it once was. Together, you coalesce into one great inferno. Powerful. I don't believe this only pertains to romantic relationships, but platonic friendships too. You may find two types of 'twin flames'. Romantic and Platonic. The romantic being the one most think of when hearing the term thrown around. But platonic twin flames exist and are just as important. The type of friend who grounds you, builds you back up when you're down, and together you both seem to shine wherever you go and light up the world around you.

When you find your flame, never let it go out.
