the white house on the side of the road

this house has been there since before we moved in over a decade ago.

this house lies across the street from the entrance to my neighborhood. i see it just about every time i leave my house.

i used to think it was abandoned. there haven't been any real signs of life that i was aware of. never a light on, never anyone out on the porch, never any method of transportation, virtually no signs of life, human or otherwise.

yesterday, while i was walking home from the barber shop, i got the closest i've ever been.

i used to think it was abandoned, but while standing so close, i noticed a few things. a brown, vertical welcome sign hung next to the door. the window on the first floor was propped open with a clear empty bottle.

as i gazed upon the house, i realized that it might not be so abandoned after all.

i'm still not sure. but i do hope that if anyone is in there, they're living a good life, and i hope this house continues to stand tall against the tests of time.
