Why are Commodore 64 games so scary?

I tried googling this question over and over again, trying to find what I'm looking for but no one seems to be talking about it?? Maybe I'm just blind or I'm not looking hard enough or maybe I'm just a wimp and no one else finds them scary.. The only results I get are like "TOP 10 SCARIEST HORROR GAMES FOR COMMODORE 64!!1! 😱😱😱" but that's not what I want to know. I don't only find games that are designed to be scary, well, scary but I just find Commodore 64 games scary in general. Or any games from that time. It could also be on some other gaming console. It's just the vibe from 80s games (could be even earlier) that really put me off. The 8-bit music from that time just gives me the chills. And let's not even talk about the sound effects, especially when the main character dies. Another thing I also find scary is that in most games from that time, something is out to get you. Some creatures in the game want to kill you and you must avoid them. The kids from that time probably found that exciting and fun but for me, it just scares me to think about how the death sound effect is gonna play. Or maybe I just find the concept of dying in these games taunting. I really don't know. In modern games I don't mind dying in the game at all. Like sure, it's frustrating but it's definitely not scary (except for horror games ofc). Me and my dad used to play these old 80s games on the TV when I was a small kid, so the fear might've also developed because I was young and kids tend to be scared more easily, so I just kinda carried that into the present. Another reason why I think I'm so creeped out by old video games is because the room that me and my dad would play these games in was also really scary to me. It was like isolated from the rest of the house. If you wanted to get to it you had to walk past the attic and through some dark hallway, so that already made me feel really unsafe. We would usually play these games in the evening or if we played in the daytime my dad would pull the shutters down so it was completely dark except for a dimmed desk light. He would also put the volume up really high "to set the mood" and also partially because he was a bit deaf from all the loud rock'n'roll music he listened to in his life. He would always offer me to play with him but I refused because I was so freaked out by it but at the same time I found them really intriguing. It's like when you're watching a horror movie and you find it scary but you just can't look away. I'm not as scared of them as I was when I was a kid but I think that fear will never completely leave me. pls tell me u guys relate, i don't wanna sound like a wimp 😔

Also here's gameplay of the game I was the most freaked out as a kid, which actually inspired me to go on this long ass rant in the first place:
