my thoughts on TTYD!

the ole thousand year door, huh... one of the rpg greats

i'm gonna use this as a segue to talk about rpgs and my history with them...

rpgs are a genre that i don't play often!! i play pokemon, and.. that's kind of it.

one time, i tried persona 5 at the request of my friend and played it for 12 minutes. thought it was okay but i didn't get into it deep enough to ever want to go back to it. my brain works weirdly, and i need to actively get immersed in something to want to play it. i never got immersed in p5 with my short playtime so i wrote it off as something i just. always needed to go back to. (i still haven't, but i have an excuse!! XP)

then, honkai starrail came out. i thought it seemed cool (and also  i played genshin), so i checked it out.

IT. WAS. SO BORING. and it didn't help that the only other rpg i seriously played, pokemon, wasn't exactly fun to me, either, and persona 5 didn't instantly draw me in the moment i opened the game (which means it's bad) and i started wondering "shit dawg... maybe rpgs just arent for me......."

this all changed when i got my vita. i decided to give persona another chance with p3p.. then realized "wait it's a visual novel.. i should just wait until i can get reload..." and then i played p4g.

i started it on a bus ride on a field trip to some jazz concert and FELL IN LOVE. i ended up playing it pretty much all day. i would save, an hour and a half would have gone by, and i'd think "damn really?? feels like 25 minutes!!" love the game.

then, i tried pokemon again! (pokemon y) and it was actually fun! it was at this point i realized "wow rpgs are actually goated actually"!!

now, as i sit here typing this, i realize "oh my god i forgot to tie this back to ttyd". it was one of the first games i downloaded while i was homebrewing my wii back in. i think around 2019? i don't remember why, but i really wanted to install homebrew on my vwiiand while downloading games, i got ttyd because it was one of the greats.

i don't think i played the game past the title screen until '22. and even then, i played up until the ~52 minute mark in this longplay of the original on gamecube!! why? i dunno! i just didn't pick it back up!!

ff to one day before the remake's release. fortunately for me, the game leaked. i pulled out my switch and downloaded the .xci annnddd..... played through the first cutscene. BUT this time, it was because i was in the middle of an essay. i said "oh, i'll play it when i'm done!"

i finished the essay and Did Not Play It!!

ff to today. i'm still not far, i just got to the forest after the first town (i am GREAT at remembering location names! :P), but my god. i love this game. so much. oh my god.

i adore the personality oozing from everything and i really like seeing even basic koopas and goombas personified in such a manner. it's so cool!!

the game itself is also really fun, and i'm loving just. watching everything onscreen!!!

i had much less to say about this game than i thought i would.. :P

tl;dr: i reeeally like ttyd's remake.
i'll probably write another one when i get substantially far into the game.. or maybe just when i have a lot to say.

thankx for reading! :D
