Top 10 Things that I remember about the early days of YouTube

1. Watching videos during indoor recess on a school computer hooked up to a 56K modem waiting until nearly the end of recess for a 60-second YouTube clip to fully load while it was playing only half a second of it and then buffering for an extra 15 seconds.

2. Smosh being the most subscribed channel with less than 5,000 subscribers and 200,000 channel views.

3. Videos only being in 240p, but still buffering even on Hi-Speed internet.

4. Search bar having red text

5. 5-star rating system

6. Ads rarely appearing

7. The only types of videos being viral clips from other sites, copyrighted music videos recorded fromMTV , low-quality family videos with minimal editing, or high quality content made by creators who made internet videos before YouTube.

8. Most viewed videos weren't music videos, but well effort content, and also had over 10,000,000 views.

9. Videos schedules did not exist, so creators basically posted whenever they want, but it was usually around 2 weeks to nearly 2 months.

10. Full movies could be uploaded without worrying about copyright, but it was split into 10-minute parts (due to the upload limit being 10 minutes), only being in 240p resolution, and buffering often like I mentioned before.

Honorable mention: The old logo with a gradient.

YouTube logo circa. 2005. The 'Broadcast Yourself' slogan variation shown wasn't added until around late February to early March of 2006.
