What's with the Doors revival?

I've seen a LOT of fans of theirs recently, especially those who are Gen Z.

How the hell are they so popular?

The Beatles are the most famous band in the world, so naturally there'd be a large amount of fans of any age.

But the Doors?

They don't appeal to me. They really don't!

I respect anyone who likes them... but, c'mon.

It's most likely because Jim Morrison fits the beauty standard of today. (Also, people are having an obsession with the 27 club lately.)

Anyways, ciao!

I’m just waiting for the day where tiktok weirdcore fans finally realize that Frank Zappa, The Residents, Todd Rundgren, R. Stevie Moore, and Gary Wilson have been here the whole time.

Social media influence something something idk anymore honestly, I’d like to believe that every existing popular band out there has some sort of young dedicated online fanbase and I’d know since I’m one of those people part of them. It happened with a lot of 80s and 90s bands and bands from the 60s are no exception

Very true! Social media has 100% changed how people discover and view music. I think it's also because of TikTok that the perception of music has changed. The Doors have good music to make 30 second clips to. But I do think it's mostly Jim Morrison that makes the Doors so popular. People are also trying to be poets lately, so Jim's poetry speaks to them a lot while some other 60s bands have really surface level lyrics.

Imo I don’t think it’s that other 60s bands have surface level lyrics (although ofc there are) but rather that the music of today has surface level lyrics. Almsot everything mainstream is written by someone else for a big artist which plays as some sort of vessel for the lyrics being sung. The way people pour their heart out for music now isn’t the same like how they did then I guess is what I’m trying to say. Or perhaps it’s the style of music, I don’t believe pop music is soulless but what comes up on the radio usually makes it seem that way
