Been a while since i've wrote abt linux and first thing i gotta say right off the bat is i have absolutely no regrets moving full time to linux, genuinely works great and most issues are either easy to fix (CLI my beloved) or are my own doing
Word of advice do NOT mess with the grub config file, had to reinstall my whole system
Since my last time talking abt linux i've switched from Linux Minit in a VM to Fedora KDE on bare metal, made sure all my software was linux compatible and then like two weeks before i moved, Roblox decided to cut support for it :((
I dont even like roblox that much but having most your friends play it and be able to join gets me a bit bummed
That aside switching to linux has been relatively painless (for the most part...) and i have a new found appreciation for open source software in general !
If im honest my first draw to Linux was for it's privacy and security compared to other operating systems and while that is a nice benefit, I've come to love it for it just not being Windows. All Microsoft hate aside, i honestly got tired of Windows on it's own with their limitations in just how outdated it was in certain aspects (no package manager by default, several important system apps still resemble their windows 7 counterparts, poor ui and workflow) Seeing the sinking ship that was Win11 and how soon made me feel linux was the only suitable option for me, haven't looked back since
KDE may honestly be my favorite DE in terms of customization and how clean it is, much smoother than Win10's ui, Ricing your desktop and getting to use it how YOU want to is such a satisfying and cathartic feeling
My ricing btw :3
As for Fedora itself it's a pretty good distro that's both stable and yet also on top of the latest linux technologies, it's no arch by any means but it doesn't need to be, only gripe i have is RPM fusion repos not being installed by default, while i understand why they aren't, there could at least be a post install guide on enabling them for new users
The biggest pain i've had (aside from the grub incident) was getting discord to work. At first the flatpak seemed to work just fine but then it refused to just open up and crashed on startup, even after reinstalling and deleting all my data saved on it
I would've used either Webcord or logged into it on my browser but I've grown quite fond of Vencord
Luckily there's an app called Vesktop that came with vencord preinstalled ! yet that also had issues... -_-
After starting up the flatpak on a second time the window was completely invisible, the app was up and running but pretty much unless, so i had to manually download the rpm for it, aside from that it's still pretty solid and i can't see myself using discord without
If you asked me I'd say Discord is intentionally making their platform unusable no matter the OS
I might make another blog post detailing some pretty nice open source software but this is all i have to say for now
Hope whoever's reading this has a lovely day! ^_^
