Learn your pentatonic scale for solos & have some basic musical theory knowledge. You kind of latently learn some theory through learning songs & analyzing their chord structures, but it would be helpful to be familiar with the functions of chords. Also, maj7 chords are infinitely more interesting than your standard bar chords
