G'day G'day welcome to week 3 of Foreign Movie Nigh ignore the date order if you will. the cool thing about this week is I was in Vietnam so I went to the cinemas there, it was nice and cheap
Today's lineup:
VERMINES/INFESTED (2023) from France
I saw this in Vietnam and it had English and Vietnamese subtitles. One thing I noticed about the cinema was that it was a digital screen and the contrast was a bit shit but nothing too bad. I went in blind and as always I do recommend going in without seeing a trailer or anything.
VERMINES/INFESTED (2023)
I liked this film, It had a strong sense of identity and culture, I would say somewhat similar to 'Le Haine' but if it was a straight-to-streaming horror flick.
I could tell that the director must of had fun with the camera work because there are a handful of shots that have lively camera movement or stand-out angels. I like that the movie had nice small payoffs, and little mention that ends up being shown or expanded later in the film, for example, a character speaks about doing MMO then latter in the film you can see him perform fighting techniques, small stuff like that to reward audience that paid attention was nice. The acting was really good as well as the writing. the characters were each riveting enough charactor but felt real. The setting was done really well, creating a community that was enteirtaing. I really enjoyed that aspect of the film. I liked the soundtrack, it was cool. although the film did kind of fall off near the end, not too much though, there was just one thing a character did that I thought didn't really make sense. overall the film had style, I would really recommend watching and I wouldn't mind rewatching it later in life.
I give it a thumbs-up and a soggy kiss
ight that's all this week I'll see ya next week where ima watch an indie Japanese horror film.

Was the movie gory - or just sort of "oww" cringe? Sounds like a dope movie but I will forever be a victim to that gross gore-ick so many movies lean on.
