Music Diary 2: The Blood of Gods by GWAR

Let's get straight to it, shall we?

War on GWAR and Viking Death Machine were two tracks I'd already heard before listening to the full album. War is a fine enough song and a good intro but I'm more obsessed with Blothar calling 911 at the end lol.

I FUCKING LOVE VIKING DEATH MACHINE SO SO MUCH ITS REALLY FUCKING FUN AND CATCHY. PLEASE WATCH THE MUSIC VIDEO FOR IT IT'S SO FUCKING AWESOOOOOOOOME

El Presidente was the first song I hadn't heard before and I ended up really liking it! It's got horns on it, let's give it up for the horns section!!! AND EVERYBODY GETS A LINE IN THE CHORUS THATS FUCKING AWESOME!!! I actually though that Jizmak's part was sung by Matt Maguire when I first heard it, but it's a lot more obvious upon re-listening.

I didn't much care for Auroch, but I immediately got into Swarm. The transition track between the two is so cool! I'm a sucker for that kinda stuff. Anyway the chorus for Swarm is rlly funny out of context ("STOP SHITTING" lmao).

SORDID SOLILOQUY HOLY SHIT. It only makes sense that Sawborg got his own song since Techno had one. I prefer Private Pain (it's my fave track off of Carnival of Chaos), but Sordid Soliloquy is still so fucking good. Top tier character song. I think it's rlly interesting that Sawborg has no respect for Techno but still intends on carrying out his goal of killing Gwar. Yeah, Techno made him, but it doesn't mean he has to like him. I also like that Blothar still sings the chorus instead of Sawborg solely doing the singing.

Death to Dickie Duncan would get stuck in my head all the time when I used to work retail. Not a total favorite but I could have worse songs in my head lol. I think it's rlly funny that Blothar goes apeshit after Dickie introduces himself.

Crushed by the Cross is pretty good, I like that Pustulus sings it and the choir ladies r pretty neat, but other than that I don't have much to say.

Beefcake and Jizmak get speaking lines on Fuck This Place and that's all I have to say abt it. Good song tho!

There's cool transition track, and then...

PHANTOM LIMB. AUUUUUUUUUUGH PHANTOM LIMB. I never thought a Gwar song would make me want to cry but the piano at the end gets me every time. I can barely describe how amazing this song is good god. I never got to truly experience GWAR when Dave Brockie was alive (I was in 4th grade when he died), but his death obviously ripples throughout the band, even ten years later. Godspeed, Brockie. Thanks for being one of the brains behind a band that brings me so much joy and makes me want to get up and create stuff.

Phantom Limb would've been a pretty good ending track, if a little dour, but If You Want Blood brings the energy back up for a happy goodbye! And Bonesnapper shows up at the end, hi Bonesnapper!! Sorry ya didn't get to sing your song, buddy.
