personally, I HATE IT and heres why:
They glamorise r@pe and abuse, no specific books come to mind because I stay far away from Booktok but there are a few Coleen Hoover books with odd sentences (the "we both laugh at our son's big b@lls" line being the first one to pop into mind). I want to know what you guys think of it as well because personally seeing those kinds of books in kid's sections gives me the ick and should count as exposing children to inappropriate content.

Do I think that dark romance books in general are horrible? No, as long as it involves adults. Studies have been shown that a lot of SA or rape victims often have these types of fantasizes as a way to process or take control of the situation, these victims will often use art, books, and roleplaying with their partners to do so. HOWEVER, I don't think people should advertise such things on tiktok since it's 13+ and you can't really control who views your stuff on that app. I think places like twitter would be better, either way I just ignore those accounts for the most part. Even though its upsetting it's the internet dude I wouldn't waste your energy getting upset about such things the most you can do is bring awareness, block and report those accounts.

i HATE booktok with all of me life like blud r@p3 is not hot see if it was like a normal book with CONSENSUAL s3x i MIGHT read it (im not the biggest fan of books tho) but R@P3 that is just insane.

yes, its crazy how much these young kids and teens are influenced by these books. Reading should be fun but also meaningful. On a more unrelated note, here's a book recommendation: The Joy Luck Club

i agree, like some books like haunting adeline are rlly weird. But there are also alot of booktok books that dont have s3xualization to them :)

bro I swear booktok is the worst thing to happen; "dark romance" and its just grape and incest. what I hate the most is how they are so comfortable with sexualising every man with a covered face on tiktok (bikers, ghost cosplayers, etc) like they completely forget there's actual people behind the masks. "booktok would treat you right" and that treatment is just sexualising the person.

i think the fact you're finding these books in kid's section is the fault of, not just booktok, but tiktok as whole, destroying the idea of a tweenager (or even a teenager! think of those 6 year olds who use retinol) and conflating teens/early 20's people (i have my own opinions of people even conflating those two groups, but whatever) and kids, so romance, straight up p0rn, all of new adult and young adult, i suppose, is ending up in the hands of younger and younger people. i miss when everypony just wanted to be the next twilight or hunger games or whatever.

i agree w u completely nd i'm super sad 2 see the current state of ya fiction. can we go back 2 when every1 just wanted 2 copy the hunger games? i've been talking abt this issue 4 a while nd i've only seen it get worse over the years. booktok normalizes abuse nd it's disgusting
