Hello person reading this.
This is my first real blog post. Today I finally finished painting my tenth plague marine from Warhammer 40k, despite starting on them almost a year ago.
The first Warhammer kit I bought about a year back contained 3 of them. Alongside 6 poxwalkers and a few regular space marines. The reason I bought the older 8th edition starter set were the plague marines. They appealed to me because they combined two of my favourite aspects of Warhammer at the time: power armour and the chaos aesthetic.
These were the first three plague marines I painted. I added the skulls and the names later down the line, but the rest was all from when I first started out. I didn't have any green colours, so that is why I came up with this colour scheme instead. Though now I prefer the regular green deathguard colouring, so if I continue with deathguard in the future I will probably go with that instead.
A few weeks after painting these, I decided to expand my death guard by purchasing a kit of 7 plague marines. Though after painting 6 of them, I decided to switch to a different faction because they had too many small hard to get to pieces which made me really burned out on painting at the time.
But now, about a year later, I have decided to finally finish this kit.
With the new paint colours and techniques I have learned since I started, I found painting this guy much more enjoyable than when I first started painting plague marines. There are still some issues that I have to work on (like those damn light grey spots that I forgot to paint). I also feel as though I might have rushed this one a little bit. In the future, I will keep this in mind and I will more carefully focus on the small details.
But other than that I am satisfied with the result, and I plan on continuing with the death guard alongside the Kroot army I have since started building.
