HOW TO PIRATE MUSIC LIKE A PRO

song playing: better by kelela

hey, it's blaze here back with another blog, and today i'm going to teach you how to sail the seven seas and be a music pirate. with so much new music coming out these days and streaming services being unreliable + expensive, pirating music is becoming ethical more than ever. consider this - have you ever wanted to listen to spotify but your wifi cut out in a thunderstorm? have you ever bought an ipod and hated itunes? i feel you. but by downloading music, you'll have it forever and no-one can take it away from you!

DON'T use a VPN
VPN's are a good option for protecting your IP address online, but if you don't pay for a VPN, downloading music will be super slow. besides, most IPs don't show where you live, they usually show a location around 100-400kms away. same goes for doxxing... don't be paranoid if your IP gets leaked!

method one: soulseek
soulseek is a open source peer-to-peer file-sharing network focused on music discovery and sharing. users connect to share music files directly with each other, fostering a community of music enthusiasts. think napster 2.0.
clients:
nicotine+: linux, bsd, solaris, windows, macos

seeker: android

soulseekqt: windows, linux, macos

THERE ARE NO CLIENTS FOR WEB OR IOS. ⚠
⚠ if you don't have admin permissions on windows (school laptop, me) choose nicotine+ over soulseekqt, and download the .zip instead of the .exe; extract the zip and run the application. ⚠

nicotine+ tutorial (seeker is easy to set up, soulseekqt is useless):
  1. either extract the .zip and run nicotine or run the standalone nicotine .exe.
  2. the stupid windows antivirus will pop up, so click "more info" and "run anyway". trust me, this app isn't a virus, you can read the code if you're paranoid.
  3. press "set up"
  4. create an account. create a password that you don't usually use.
  5. skip this step.
  6. select the folder you'll be downloading to. i suggest choosing your "music" folder for obvious reasons. you should also choose your "music" folder as a share folder so nobody bullies you for leeching (downloading files without ever sharing one)
  7. you're done setting it up! now how to use it.
searching for files
you can search for files by using the search bar at the top of the screen. entering your query and pressing the enter key will show what you're searching for.
searching the artist and the album at the same time usually works as well.
boring time: music comes in different file formats, some preferring quality, some preferring the least storage space. i personally recommend 320kbps mp3 for storage saving, 16/44.1 flac for middle ground, and 24/48+ flac/wav for high quality. here's how to filter them out.

open "result filters" and type flac in the third box for .flac files.
type mp3 in the third box and 320 in the 5th box for 320kbps .mp3 files.
sort by download speed by pressing the speed button so the arrow points down. you don't want an extremely slow download.

to download a folder/album, right click the root of the folder and click download folder(s).
if you're not sharing files, an automated message will probably reach you telling you to share some. either way, head to the downloads page to check your progress.
there's the basics of nicotine+! if you need more info, search on google or reddit for answers.

method 2: sharemania (browser)
sharemania is a forum dedicated to sharing music, movies, magazines, and more. just sign up for an account and start downloading. flacs, mp3s, and more formats are included. most people use mega or google drive as filehosts, some use mediafire. i suggest you use an adblocker while browsing and make sure to reply with "thank you" when you find your music.

how to play the music you just downloaded:
android: oto music, samsung music, spotify local files
ios: vlc, music app (need itunes), muziqi (needs ios 17)
windows: itunes, musicbee (can get on school laptop, recommended, soundcloud/podcast/webradio/lastfm integration), windows media player
macos: itunes, etc
linux: strawberry

other websites you should know:
itunes album art finder: lets you download high quality (choose 5000) album art to embed in your mp3/flac files/use as wallpapers.
spotx: free spotify premium for windows
musicbrainz picard: free audio tagger (if your music has no metadata)

and thats it! hopefully my instructions are clear enough to you. if not, comment down below or im me. if so, make sure to give 2 kudos! see ya later!! 😊😊😊
