hazing in fraternities...

.This blog is going to be a breif about the hazing culture in fraternities and sororities. now I haven't done a ton of research but after watching videos and reading some articles, I have something to say about it.

Hazing, "humiliating and sometimes dangerous initiation rituals, especially as imposed on college students seeking membership to a fraternity or sorority." Now hazing in sororities and fraternities is one of the oldest traditions done in college going back to as far as the late 19th century and early 20th centuries. The first fraternity was established in 1776. Now you must be thinking, "what's so bad about hazing? It's just harmless pranks on new members of the frat/sorority!" I used to think this too before hearing the case of Sanda Diez(and many others). Sanda Diez DIED during a hazing initiation. and so did many others. Hazing culture is just disgusting to me, or at least what it has come to be.

Frat members will do all sorts of humiliating things to the "pledges"(new members) such as: forced drinking(usually resulting in alcohol poisoning), sleep deprivation, forced exercise, verbal abuse, threats, sexual assault, urinating on pledges, public nudity, beating pledges with paddles, the list goes on. While I was researching a certain college that did very..intense hazing, I came across countless disgusting videos of frats sexually abusing pledges. these are downright fucking CRIMES and usually they go unnoticed because certain frats are very powerful and wealthy. in the case of Sanda Diez he was fed living rats, goldfish, eels, he was called racist names. The case was just so chilling to me.

This was very brief, but I will most likely talk about this more in the future. I will most likely write about the Sanda Diez case and also about other cases relating to frats, sororities, etc.
