- What you have learned about your topic
-The mid to late 1960s-1980's saw rise in the science fiction subgenre of horror films.Alongside it was the steady growing popularity for the slasher trope. In the 1970s,Roman Polanski's movie 'Rosemary's Baby' set up a wave for more dark psychologically driven films in the genre going forward.Through the late 1970's-1980s,the horror genre saw a spike in slasher films.During this time, now deemed 'cult classics' such as 'halloween' (1978) and 'friday the 13th' (1980) were released.
The rest of the 1980s continues on with the slasher craze, establishing well knows horror icons such as Chucky, Micheal myers, freddy krueger, etc. The 1990s-2000s saw the revival of the supernatural element in the horror genre and the new trend of self aware,snarky,dark,humor/dialogue in horror movies. At this point the slasher craze had seemingly gone so far as to parody itself with self aware quips on the genre's tropes (e.g. scream, scary movie, bride of chucky). This time period in horror films also marked as rise in popularity for horror comedies.
Focusing on modern horror media, the genre has evolved and shifted to a point where it can thrive.the horror genre is currently going through what some call a renaissance.the quality of films in recent years keeps up with modern technology while still being able to achieve success with practical effects ,and an incredible amount of modern filmmakers subvert already established tropes in the genre and continue to experiment with different visual and storywise styles.A lot of modern horror also dives into real world social issues (e.g. get out (2017) and hereditary (2018))
