- What have you decided to focus on for your Genius Hour project?
- for my blog i'll be talking about the history and cinematography of horror films and how the horror genre interprets and represents mental illness (+how horror movies effect the viewer)
- Why is this topic important to you?
- i find watching horror media to be a big interest of mine. i also really like researching about how media/art effects life and how certain people find comfort in traditionally macabre/disturbing media.
- What are your goals for this project?
-my goal for this project is to take a deep dive on the history of horror cinema and take a more psychological look of the genre and its viewers.
- How will you measure your goals?
-by the end of this project i hope to lay out a clear timeline of the history/eras of the horror film genre, explain the correlation between mental illness in horror movies, and note on how horror films effect different people.
- What you have learned about your topic?
-mental illness has always been a trope in horror media, being an easy way for writers to create a crazy, deranged, antagonist. The horror genre has also been infamous for misrepresenting mental illness into something plainly destructive.
-The first horror movie, “Le Manoir du Diable,”,was released in 1896.
