Scratching That Niche

I haven't been a huge fan of Linkin Park's albums after their release of Meteora. There were a few songs that I liked since then, but nothing in a complete package that I could listen to back to back quite like Hybrid Theory and Meteora. I've tried Story of the Year's 10-year version of their Page Avenue album, which actually slaps. It was a nice take on their old music, like a good transition from my teenage years to adulthood.

I made a Spotify account ages ago because people raved about how good their algorithm was. I added all the music I've ever enjoyed and tried out their automated selections to be pleasantly surprised. I dunno how Spotify programed their algorithm, but it did a great job to introduce me to some good artists that I would never discover on my own.

It is thanks to Spotify that I found Fame on Fire, although I only like one of their albums thus far. I also discovered Rain City Drive, which is able to jump music styles but still retain their particular flavor. Rain City Drive feels like it was what Linkin Park aimed for but didn't quite hit the mark, in my opinion.

And then there's Citizen Soldier.

Pretend My Pain Away

Dang, this song hits me in a way Linkin Park never had. I usually lean towards Christian Rock since that's the closest kind of music that scratches that kind of itch, but not quite. Citizen Soldier is the first artist I've discovered to really fill that niche I've been searching for years.

So I guess, thanks, Spotify. Still don't like your pop-ups, but that's what browser mods are for. <<
