Zero Day

this was originally a bulletin but i wrote too much just for it to be deleted forever in ten days

i watched zero day for the first time a few days ago. ive been wanting to watch for awhile but i was putting it off since the majority of people ive seen who are fans of it are either apart of 'tcc' or just straight up columbiners. anyways i watched it and oh my gosh, i saw a bunch of people call it the best found footage movie for the genre, and i agree. i usually do not agree when something is claimed to be teh "best" of a particular genre or what not, however it is genuinely so well made despite the lower budget.

it is one of the scariest movies i have ever seen, simply because of how real the situation is compared to many other found footage movies. in my opinion, the majority of the big found footage movies are usually linked to occult or paranormal themes and plots, and are really not for me. i love ben coccio's use of found footage to create such a morbidly interesting piece of media. i really love how the actors share the names of cal and andre, i feel it just adds so much to it. i recently watched a video where Andre Keuck, actor of andre kriegman, answers some questions about the movie on his youtube channel. the entire time i was just thinking back to the movie and thinking how good both cal and andre's acting was and that they were only my age during the time of filming. to me the movie felt so real it was actually pretty weird to see andre still alive and well, seemingly just a normal dude on the internet.

the end scene of the movie was one of the few scenes that made me stare just wide eyed, and in all honesty made me slightly sick. i just cannot bring up enough the fact of how real this movie felt to me even though i knew it was a scripted movie from the beginning. its just such an insane, interesting, super cool movie. obviously the real events it is inspired by are horrendous, but i cant help but have insane appreciation for zero day.

the tcc people really makes it hard for me to love this movie. i still love it despite them, but whenever i try to watch any media relating to the movie, whether it be video essays or ice berg videos about the production, i just cannot ignore the blatant weirdos who love the movie. its more often than not people who basically treat andre and cal as if they're dan and phil in like 2014, smol bean type shit, but there are some fucking degens as well. like ive seen too many people have their username as "Reb", which if it was only one person i wouldn't be put off by it, but its like a lot of people. and if you didnt know, Reb was a nickname for eric harris, one of the columbine shooters, i find it so insanely weird and whenever i see fans like that it genuinely makes me feel guilty for enjoying zero day.

obviously a lot of it is rage bait, but i believe a lot of it isn't. although the 'true crime community' has been well known for a while, it really isn't a common spectacle i see people dog pile compared to things like proshippers. and i bring that up because the only reason why proshippers have so many obvious bait accs is because of teh fact it's such a spectacle. but i hardly ever see anyone talk abt the true crime communtiy, therefore i really don't think the majority are bait accs :p which sucks cause the tcc people who associate with stuff like zero day gives the movie and everyone who enjoys it such a bad name

it really does make me distance myself from stuff like zero day and kmfdm, which sucks cause i loveee both, its sad that nearly every piece of media has at least one negative group of people that kinda creates a bad stigma around it

i think thats why it was so scary for me was because of how they preformed it so well and made it feel so real

scrolled through the movies section and found ur post!
dude i feel the same, i was super hyperfixated on zero day and its one of my fav movies. i listened & read so many interviews and basically anything i could find abt this movie bc its so fascinating 2 me. the exploration of male rage,.... cal and andre's relationship is so intersting and i fucking love that even tho we spend the whole movie watching them, theres always a distance. they choose what we can see, what they want 2 keep a part of their story. in genreal, school sh00tings (can i get banned on this site 4 typing certain words?) are such a weird phenomenons. esp when its so stereotypically american. im not from the U.S, and itz sooo bizzare 2 me how these things happen on such a big scale??

anyway, abt the weird fans, honestly, u can find those in almost every community, even the most wholesome ones. i think its jus that the weird people r louder lol. it doesnt bother me as much bc id rather them moe-fy the characters than acc admire them 4 their canon personality LMAO. its unfortunate that it reached the wrong audience. this movie deserves more attention imo.

i find the movie insanely fascinating as well, i love it so much it just feels so organic. i've met dudes irl who act so much like both cal and andre (personality wise) and it really does just make the entire movie so much more insane imo. and dude trust, im from the US and school shootings are just as bizarre to me as they are to you xP and the fan thing, dude it actually makes me so annoyed cause even tho i know every fandom has its weird side, i feel the weird fans of zero day heavily outweigh the normal ones. at the very least theyre much, exactly as you put it, louder about their love for the characters.

idk if i just haven’t spent a lot of time online b4, or maybe i wasn’t in the “right” spaces but is it jus me or are a lot more ppl are finding this movie recently? maybe it’s a coincidence but i’ve never seen this movie anywhere b4 i watched it, i literally found it from a random meme on pinterest LMAO and now i see it often. maybe it’s rly just that i found more niche places online, idk.

and YES. even i found myself relating to them on certain moments in the movie, esp that scene where cal goes 2 prom with his classmates, or his video diaries. anger i’ve had and project on other ppl bc i felt like i deserved to be treated a certain way. it sounds kinda morbid but i get a sense of relief when i know i’m self aware enough that i didn’t go down that path of hurting other ppl. even tho that anger is so real sometimes, n u don’t know where 2 put it.

curious what u think, since it’s kind of up to interpretation whether they’re being bullied i always wanna know what other ppl interpreted LOL. personally i think they aren’t, at first it kinda shocked me that ppl read it as if they were??

ALSO SRY I RAMBLE SM WTF

i think it has its waves of popularity. and each surge of popularity makes it more known than the last. especially since i feel it's kinda considered more so an infamous movie. but yea i completely get that, i hardly saw anything about it until after i watched it, and now i see references everywhere on almost every app i go on.

and dude so glad you said that, because i felt so guilty relating to them to a minimal extent. it really does make you think like what would have happened if i ended up too far gone to their extent. even if it wasnt to physically hurt others, it could have very much reversed onto myself yk. very scary to think about, especially when it comes to such a real and serious topic as this one.

i personally think they face some bullying, like nothing crazily heavy, but i think they just get pushed around by other people at school. i honestly think they just hate everyone. they had a few bad experiences with some people and basically generalize everyone else yk. especially when it comes to andre, at least he's the most outspoken about it.

and dont apologize, im actually really happy to read your perspective on it :D

i think a lot of people who felt outcasted or ignored at school could relate 2 them in a way, if you put aside all the murderous stuff LOL. dude sometimes when i’m in a social situation i feel myself thinking things i don’t acc mean, or that aren’t true, but when ur experiencing it it’s extremely hard to see things objectively TT . i think both andre and cal see the world as if everyone is against them, they assume everyone thinks the worst of them bc that’s how they see other ppl, and i guess they also think the worst of themselves. at the end of the day, they killed themselves too.

also, yeah i do think they probably get teased and such. the car scene w/ cal is so important bc we can finally see how he interacts in a group setting, and not just with andre. STILL annoyed at how much i act like him. WHEN DOES THE AWKWARDNESS GO AWAY?
i wish we got a similar scene w/ andre. i’m guessing he comes across as more off putting rather than awkward which is why characters like rachel find him even less approachable than cal. despite both of them being innnnsannee !!

AND YAY IM GLAD !! i thought abt this movie and the characters sm . literally i know them better than ben does fr like!!!!!

realized i said car scene as if the movie isn’t basically entirely filmed inside cars LMFAO. but ywim…

I GET U SO MUCH the limo scene was such a good way to show the viewer cal as a person outside of his life with andre. and i also agree so much on andre, i really really wish we got to see him interact with others more. and i feel like there was kinda a point with why we didnt. like he obviously hated people, i personally think he tried everything in his power to avoid interaction. still wish we could see him talking to someone besides cal or his parents. and like you said, it probbaly wouldn't have been anyhting crazy, just more off putting. i can definitely see him as a character he doesn't speak unless he's spoken to first solely because he does not want to interact with anyone around him.

and i get you so much, ever since i watched this movie it has just been on my mind. like no matter how much i talk about it i just cant stop thinking about it. and i completely got what you meant with the car scene LOLLL

GAHHH i just wonder how they ended up being friends, like what made andre especially open up 2 cal and what brought them 2gether. besides not being off put by each other LOL
what do u think abt the queer subtext btw? ponders abt that so hard,,

this movie def kinda haunts u bc of how realistic it is TT it’s hard 2 forget abt it once u watched it.

also i’m kinda new 2 spacehey (acc is one week old), this is literally the longest comment thread i’ve come across on this site so far GAHAH

by MyRawChickenSoup; ; Report

i loweky fw the queer subtext, i feel like they werent just like kissing behind the scenes or anything, but i wouldnt put it past them to have been like just the slightest bit gay for each other and just didnt act on anything or bring it up really yk. thats just my interpretation tho, i'm not against those who take it that they were like openly gay to one another for one another

and ive been on here for a few months and ive had one other comment thread but it was no where near this long LOLLLLL
