i'm a goth, not an emo

my goth buddies, how many times have you been called emo? a few days ago, i passed a boy in the hallway at school who, like the majority of the population, considers every alternative person to be emo. he immediately started yelling at his friend sitting next to him, "omg, that's an emo girl!"

1) not everyone who dresses in black is emo.

2) goths and emos listen to completely different music. goths prefer post-punk, gothic rock or industrial music, emos prefer post-hardcore, pop punk or, of course, emo music.

3) emos generally have (mostly) more chaotic clothing style than goths. 

4) goths have layers of make-up all over their face, emos emphasize the eyes over all.

5) of course you can be goth and not look like one - it's a music subculture!

6) goths focus on the search for beauty and the dark side of life, emos are melancholic and emotionally expressive in their creative work.
