I'm 17 turning 18 in about two weeks and holy SHIT the amount of people who treat me like I know what I'm doing when I don't. The amount of people who think I should be figured out by now, who think I should be up to date or AHEAD of the curve... And I'm not! It's like. Suddenly at 18 you have all the worst parts of adulthood like taxes and rent but none of the fun parts like income or drinking. Like..? What!? It sucks!!!
Also, the amount of real adults who say "it gets so much better from here," and the amount that say "it only gets worse," those are EQUAL. My favourite teacher says BOTH!! Anyways, real adults also say they don't know what they're doing, but that can't be true. Lawyers and doctors ought to know what they're doing?? And yet they also say they don't if you ask, and believe me, I ask. It's just challenging feeling like you go from being a kid who knows nothing to an adult who's expected to know everything in just like. A month or two.

why is there such a big jump in how people treat you between 17 and 18

YES THIS
I’m getting so fucking sick of the constant future-related questions I get bombarded with by family members (and other people tbh but they’re the worst offenders)!!! They gave zero shits about my future when I was, like, 15 so WHY are you guys nagging me about my career and colleges NOW AAAAAA
Like, I do have a somewhat put-together plan for myself but, just out of pure pettiness, I rarely ever reveal it to people >:/ also because someone ALWAYS has something to say on what you’re planning to do omfg
I dont have my future FULLY planned yet, but when I do the whole "maybe I want this," talk with my mom she immediately tells our whole family.. So I get uu :( hope ur plans go well!

People just tend to think that you magically become an adult when you turn 18
YES THIS... and people act as though "simple" adulting things are innate, and not actually learned. I was proud of myself for figuring out how to pop the hood of my car, and when I expressed that to my mom she acted as though I was dumb for not having that knowledge in me naturally :sob:
