May 8, 2024. Entry 8: "Sennheiser Momentum 4 - Disappointed"
I want to start this out by saying these were the first ever Sennheiser product I've ever had. That being said, it was quite the brief time of me having them, and I will return them ASAP.
I've been making and listening to music on the Sony WH-1000XM5. Great pair, but not the best for sound quality. They are my 24/7 headphones, and I mean 24/7. I'm autistic and require them wherever I go. I only take them out to shower and sleep. This means that I need 100% transparency. While the XM5s didn't offer much more than the minimum for sound quality, their transparency mode is simply exceptional. Then my second pair started kinda dying, same thing I saw with my first pair. Transparency would go deaf a whole day in one ear cup, things like that. "Okay, let's try another brand. All these reviewers are saying the same thing: Momentum 4s for sound quality, and they also have a 'great' transparency mode. Neat!" and so I bought me a pair. Was not cheap. They arrive after a few days, and I try them out after downloading the app, setting it up and turning on transparency mode. "What the fuck." The sound quality is amazing, but I CANNOT ENJOY IT IF I'M FUCKING DEAF. I have never seen a "transparency" mode this bad. If the Sennheiser Momentum 4s have a "transparency" mode, a 2x4 wooden plank is see-through. It's muffled, quiet, only lets out the things you don't wanna hear, like loud noises and AC units, and this pairs up with my other biggest complaint: It's impossible to make them stay still. If I'm walking, they shake around. Seems like there isn't any sealing done in the ear cups. Worst part, when the cushions try to settle on your head, they make this awful crinkling noise like you're opening a bag of Lays. Simply unusable. They are also extremely uncomfortable compared to the XM5s, and do NOT disappear on your head like them. There's a permanent feeling of pressure on your head. It will not go away. Especially with such a horrible "transparency" mode. And yes, it was up to date in firmware.
Let's just say my first impressions of the company aren't the best. It's not the best practice to lie out your ass. Will stay far away from them in the future for technology, though maybe their open-backs are good products as they're just wired things and the only thing that matters is how flat the response is. Thanks for reading my angry ass review.
