Thoughts on Wednesday season 2

Wednesday is probably the last show I watched fully, yeah, back in 2022, and have been... not obsessed with but definitelly has been a prominent piece of media for the past two years of my life—where I exclusively read Wednesday fanfiction and watched Jenna Ortega's filmography (lmfao).

I actually have a love-hate relationship with Jenna but, anyways.

Netflix officially announced today the starting production of the second season of Wednesday and I'm kind of excited. On one side, this took real fucking long but also, most actors, specially Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair in the show) have had crazy amounts of work post-Wednesday, which is great, I just hope all this time and with Jenna becoming an executive producer in the show also meant that the script and direction this season are going to be actually good and not mediocre like the first one; but since it's Netflix, I don't really expect much. Plus, fanfiction has definitely set the bar too high. On the other side, I'm really glad they seemingly replaced racist and misogynist Percy Hynes White from the cast at last; a win in my book.

Very saddened by the fact that it also seems season one's finale was [spoiler --->] truly the end of Gwendoline Christie's and Christina Ricci's characters ☹️ No iconic Naomi Ogawa or Watson twins, apparently? 🥺

However, the rest of the cast this new season seem quite interesting and I can't wait to see what their roles are.

Joy Sunday in this picture stands out so much, I love her, I hope we see more of Bianca. And of Isaac Ordonez, who plays Pugsley Addams and Moosa Mostafa, who plays Eugene Ottinger.

I really just want there to be proper developments and depth. The Addams in this iteration were reduced to their utmost caricature-like features and stripped of all their nuance, so much more could be done with them.

As per shipping, I love Wenclair. However, this is, once again, Netflix, so I wouldn't get my hopes up but hopefully if they remain friends they give them a proper friendship development and not halfassed superficial level type of interactions for fanservice and whatnot. We'll clearly be seeing more of Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), I wouldn't be opposed to a redemption arc of his. Wyler shippers/fanfic writers are very convincing... I do think his character was poorly developed in the first season despite his importance to the whole plot.

What are your thoughts?

I was pretty disappointed with season 1, it felt like the writers/showrunners didnt quite grasp what made the Addams family tick, how the characters worked and what their relationships are like (both as a family and towards others) as well as just various little plot details that felt either badly written or poorly thought out to me.

The casting was pretty good though so maybe if the writing improves with season 2 I might give it a shot.

They made a commercial horror teen show. It was mediocre at best and most of the season was solely carried by Jenna's performance, imho. It really mischaracterized and misrepresented the Addams Family in the eyes of many fans. Hopefully, Jenna being executive producer now and with the understanding she has of her own character, they manage to make it as good as they can. It seems like she doesn't want much romance this season –which, good, because it didn't work out in the first one– and wants to ramp up the horror aspect of it. We'll see! With such cast changes I wonder what'll be of the Nightshades, too. I don't think much more could've been done with Xavier's character after he was just a red herring, but Yoko and the twins were interesting albeit underused side characters. I wonder if they'll pull a Yellowjackets/Sense8 where they replace actors but not characters or give them entirely new characters. I'm excited for the new additions and how this'll turn out.
