Think about it - ever since booktok exploded, authors have had an increasing responsibility to promote their own book. It's similar to music artists, because publishers are moving like record labels and skimping out on promotions. Authors don't know how to promote their work, so they rely purely on the algorithm - hence, an emphasis on tropes (often they highlight the tropes without actually giving a blurb), constant posting, comparisons to existing novels (if it's a feminist LOTR, it is not LOTR, it's a different book) and it's kinda leaking into brainrot territory the way literature is being condensed to mere AO3 hashtags. Everbody is trying to be the next This Is How You Lose The Time War, or CoHo.
And I think it's a good reason as to why people have a hatred for Booktok and similar scenes on the internet. The bland, vapid way in which you are forced to market your own labour is painful, and uhhh blah blah capitalism is destroying art blah
