Hey yo! First Post Here! (I forgot for a while that this site exists, anyways)
I recently discovered (literally hours ago) some different eggs, and now I would like to share with you people that as same as me, like marine biology;
You probably already know that sharks are oviparous, right? Yep, but they are in most hatching the eggs inside the mother, these are called ovoviviparity, but you prob know that too;
Well, in these two cases, the egg is released out, just like any other "normal" egg we know, and they have an amazing format! And not for nothing;
The Hornshark eggΒ has this peculiar spiral-shaped shell to stick in the rocks and algaes at the bottom at the sea, to protect themselves from being carried away by the current/flow. (dont Know if it's correct this word sorry if I make an misunderstanding here.)
Now, this egg, are very ugly and strange, or at least that was my first impression when I saw this image, anyways, they have theseΒ curly tendrils or "mermaid's purses" at each end, to stick in the algae too, these are the Catshark Eggs, practically wrapped in a membrane, looking like a cellule (some catsharks can both be oviparous and oviviparous.) And here it is:
Catshark Egg N.1Β CatShark Egg N.2
Well, thats all I wanted to show, hope someone like me enjoyed to discover this, and sorry for any mistakes! Im still learning :) See ya later
