subcultures

this is my first ever post so pls be kind

I think it's so stupid that the internet has begun to be so shallow and elitist, especially with its view of alternative subcultures; if you look at any punks online, their comment sections are often filled with people going 'I rlly want to be a punk but I can't afford the clothes because they're all expensive' and it just makes me want to SCREAM. Punk is about rebelling against fascism and horrible people and the government, if you want to look the part then look for cheap clothes in your local charity shops and DIY the shit out of them. It's not meant to be expensive, you're not meant to buy into these capitalist megacorporations trying to eek as much money out of a subculture which is now widely commercialised. The fact that they even do that makes me seethe, tbh. 

It's the same with people wanting to join gothic subcultures, it's about music and a general outlook on the world, not the clothes or the aesthetic, which is obviously preferred by a lot of people, but every time I look in a comment section of a goth's post, people are always like 'i want to be a goth but I'm too poor TT' and I just sit there like OH MY GOD. sit down, read Dracula, hang out in a graveyard, listen to Bauhaus, Siouxie and the Banshees, Sex Gang Children or whatever tickles your pickle!!! If you want to look the part go to the charity shops and dye whatever u pick up black, get cheap costume jewellery and cheap Halloween costumes, get face paint from Poundland, whatever.

I suppose what I'm getting at is you don't need to be rich to look and join subcultures and never let anyone tell you otherwise, and the thing is, is that if you talk to anyone from these subcultures in real life, none of them actually give a shit about what you look like because we're all freaks and geeks really, it's just the online world stopping people from taking that first step in their adventure into the underworld through fear of judgement and stuff and I just think it's so SILLY!!!!
