Spacehey video essay script (Help needed!)

So I want to create a video essay on Spacehey and some problems it has, I’ve created a draft script which I’ll put down below but I appreciate it if anyone is able to give me criticism and more stuff to add. Ty! (There might be a few typos so pls ignore that)

Spacehey

So it’s the year 2024 in the past few years people have just been OBSESSED with the 2000s or “y2k” (whatever you wanna call it) and this doesn’t just include fashion and music but also subcultures. The primary ones being scene kids and emos. But what’s that without the early internet? You see back then everything was customisable, you weren’t just given a pfp and a banner to change like you do now. There were endless themes and with the Rawring20s movement on the rise that had started around the pandemic, a new version of MySpace was created called Spacehey to fulfill that demand for customization. Ofc it wasn’t the only site that got a fan-made recreation, there’s also Neocities which is practically just a reboot of Geocities. Considering the modern equivalent of having ur own website now is just to have a custom carrd or rentry in ur bio, Neocities seems to attract a certain more niche audience (kinda like Spacehey) but back to Spacehey. While it tries to immitate the aesthetics of what the early internet originally was, there are obviously still some complications that happen due to it’s ever growing base of users and the way it adapts in today’s usage of social media platforms. Enough of that, let’s dive in.

Userbase

One of the problems that has been voiced as of currently (mainly on Reddit) is Spacehey’s userbase. While Spacehey attracts adults who were there during the original MySpace era who use this current site as a way to re-experience their teen memories, Spacehey also seems to have a concerning amount of young users (which uh includes myself) but some of these users are as young as 13. Look I’ve been on the internet for as young as I can remember and I still had my own restrictions here and there placed by my parents and even now I’m still prone to being exposed to horrible things, it’s just that I try to be cautious  about it but that doesn’t mean these other young users can. 

While most of these adults are very strict on who they interact with (this mainly includes not speaking to minors or any people of underage), unfortunately not everyone is like that which brings us to our next problem…

Pdfiles and gr**ming 

I know this one is a bit general and can be applied to pretty much any platform ever but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be addressed but on Spacehey there are a fair amount of [pdfiles] and [groomers]. This seems pretty evident with the amount of callout posts u see on the main page of the blogs section of Spacehey. Reporting can only do so much and considering there’s around 3-5 mods on this site entirely, things can go completely unnoticed. It’s fair to complain about this but once again, there just aren’t enough mods. 

Other horrible people

As if the previous one wasn’t enough there are unfortunately more terrible people on this site. Some include gore spammers and spam raids. I think gore spammers are pretty self explanatory since it’s in the name and spam raids are a bit more general, most of it includes spamming racist slurs constantly on blogs or having such in their users. Sometimes they can be around for a while but usually people are really quick to report them. I think what’s frustrating is constantly being exposed to stuff like this from time to time. It’s not often enough to happen every single day but it is frequent enough to atleast happen once every 2 weeks or more. And not everyone is “desensitized” to stuff like this, most people dislike it and would NOT want to wake up to something like that while having just logged in.

There’s also the “TCC” which can be easily found Spacehey. If u don’t know what TCC means it stands for the “True Crime Community” and the portion of this community I’m specifically talking about is the weird edgy teens who look up to literal serial killers and school shooters. Some of the people from this community claim that they aren’t “hurting anyone” since they mostly only interact within one another but it’s still messed up especially towards the victims and family of the victims that were involved in the events that include these serial killers and school shooters. I don’t know it feels like there has to be a whole separate video on this and I haven’t been on the internet long enough to know everything about the TCC or it’s origins and why people like this exist at all so I’ll leave it to someone else to make a video on that.

Inactivity

Sounds vague but I think I can try categorising this in the same section. U see a lot of people don’t actually use Spacehey as a main platform especially comsidering we have many other options because why post on blogs when you can get more traction on Tumblr (yes Tumblr is still quite active imo), why ask a question on forums when Reddit & Quora are around, why use IM when Discord is easier to use. Spacehey is used as an alternative platform to get you away from the hustle and bustle of main platforms that constantly track ur data to let the algorithm know exactly what to feed ur brain which surprise surprise Spacehey doesn’t do. But you can only spend so much time on here until you get bored of it and forget about it completely so it’s no wonder why u see so many blogs of people going “Hey! I forgot this site existed!” because unless you have a thousand people on ur friends list, there really isn’t much to do. Blogs get an average of either zero to 3 comments unless it’s a ragebait post and bulletins are the only things that show up on ur home feed that u know is created by ur friends. Sure the profile customization is fun but that’s the only appeal. Spacehey is admittedly boring, u get tired of it but if what I’m hearing about the fact it gets more active during summer is true well then I guess only time can tell if Spacehey is still fun to use

So um this is my first video essay ever so I really apologise if I missed anything or if said anything wrong and insensitive, I probably just misspoke in that case. I don’t have the best narrating voice either but I hope I was bearable enough to listen to and I hope I can make more videos like this in the future so uh yea, cya.
