I work at a southern fast food chain, not gonna specify for safety and privacy. My job can be hell sometimes, I've worked nearly every hour of every shift, as we are open 24/7, and working dinner has got to be the WORST shift to work ever. Morning crew is usually adults who are actually competent and good at the job. Dinner shift is when most of the teenagers work because yk school and whatever and nearly all the worst employees that I've worked with are these dumbass teenagers. I get that not everyone is going to get it right away but some of these kids will ask to work fry station and then complain about having to drop fries. They will drop an entire milkshake onto the floor and just let it be. Here are some real conversations that I've had.
<"Hey we have 2 triples going out, drop 3 rows"
"ok"
*drops one row and stands around*>
<"hey can I get a dub dub (two meat, two cheese) and a patty melt"
"yeah sure"
*brings NEITHER a dub dub NOR a patty melt*>
<"leaving no chicken bites, can you drop 9 pieces?"
"yeah"
*drops 75 chicken bites*( I wish I could say I was exaggerating)>
<*walks into dish pit and sees damn near black dish soap water, several handfuls worth of various foods floating on the top*
"hey bro, you cant clean dishes in dirty water haha, scrape the food into the trash and when the water gets super dirty like that, just drain it and refill it :)"
"oh okay I didn't know that">
I guess its the lack of initiative or common sense. These kids will walk over the same pile of fries on the floor but no one will think to pick it up. When they get a free moment, they dont think to clean up or restock. Their first instinct is to go to the back and hit their vape. I shit you not one of them, who got a box mod at 17, said he vapes to "help with his depression and anxiety." MF. That vape IS your depression and anxiety.
I'm not saying all the young teens are bad, because I know some 17 year olds who get in there and tear it up on the line, but we get sooooo manyyy kids on dinner shift. Some people just aren't build for fast food, and that's fine. But it takes a certain level of self awareness to realize something like that, and these kids don't have it. I don't get paid to babysit but I do it anyway.

Moving on from all that shitty stuff, I NEED to talk about compression socks. I might have some blood flow issues, but regardless, compression socks are fantastic. I worked a 10 hour shift today, something I have not done in a while. I wore my compression socks today and my feet didn't even start hurting until like hour 7, which is crazy. I've been working a lot of 6 hour shifts and my feet start hurting at hour 3 so today was pretty shocking for me. I do a whole lot of "standing in one place" at a time, and a whole lot of walking. The compression socks were fabulous. My legs weren't as achy, my feet weren't as hurty, even now after my shift my legs aren't fvcking dead and numb. I recommend to anyone who works fast food or any job that requires you to be on your feet all day (walking or standing) to try compression socks. They are such a game changer.
