throughout my almost 16 years of experiencing the internet, i have seen many things come and go, change and fall, become created and and became something great, or never took off in the long run/stayed private and/or possibly became inactive.
years and years of content being consumed by me with little to no internet restrictions and/or supervision (especially at home) led to me discovering many things that i would begin to have a deep love to. creepypastas (slenderman, smile.dog, jeff the killer, etc.), anime (lucky star, dragon ball, attack on titan, elfen lied (you HAVE to remember this one. you definitely do.)), and a few other things. one major part that really shaped me as a child was discovering roblox back in i believe 2009-2010. this was when the glory/golden days of roblox still existed. before the infamous 2012 april fools sitewide hack. before ugc came about. before roblox today, as we know it, even existed. there were so many games that i had steadily grown a great obsession and grew fond memories of. nintendo minigames was one of these such games, mainly since i loved nintendo a lot. i used to have a nintendo ds, 3ds, wii, wii u, and right now i own a nintendo switch, along with my laptop that i currently use now.
however, hopping back to the reference of younger me having no supervision, this would result to me stumbling upon various sites and/or forums/boards that i most likely had little to absolutely zero business being in. 4chan would be one of these examples. it was then from there that my personality would soon truly shape myself as a person. yes, i did meet some nice people on 4chan, none of which i unfortunately stay in contact with, but perhaps that was for the better, anyway. i also met a lot of racist and genuinely weird people on that site. it was here that i learned the deeper, more "publicly restricted" areas of the internet as a whole, and i would soon fumble my way into the dark web, although luckily not for long.
from that point onward, i would engage in reddit, since during the time i was using 4chan, i heard people mentioning reddit, so i decided to have a peek at it myself to see what all the commotion was about. all i can say is that i barely use it now, though on occasion i tend to find some really good posts on there to laugh at.
but how am i doing now?
...honestly, i've changed, more or less, though not very much. i'm still the "weird kid", even though this year i turn 20. i start college in approximately two weeks, i have my own car, i work, i do most of the stuff that adults would normally do. though some of my childhood likes have obviously stayed with me. lucky star, sanrio, azumanga daioh, roblox, nichijou, and so much more things from my past have still remained with me throughout all this time, and honestly, i love it, and cherish every single moment of it. as of now i've watched the entirety of lucky star and nichijou, but i have not watched azumanga daioh yet (mainly because i can't find any places that have all of the episodes freely available to watch.)
okay, getting the personal stuff aside; my opinion on the internet as a whole.
to keep it a bit simple, i have quite mixed feelings about it, but if i had to pick a side, i would say that i like the current state of the internet. sure, it may be quite bad right now, and the fact that the dead internet theory is truly upon us, i don't really mind all that much. i have my girlfriend, who is really sweet and gentle, and the fact that we have a lot of similarities, completely at random, was astonishing for the both of us to find out!
the internet contains of all of my favourite music (you can check out my spotify playlist here.), all of my friends, games, anime, everything that i would honestly ever need for my introverted self. so i'm genuinely cool with the state of the internet at this current point in time.
anyways, huge personal blog post over! if you found anything interesting, do let me know in the comments! i'd be glad to talk with you all on some stuff!
as always, thx for reading!
