I started to feel that smartphones are so evil a good while back now. It's not just social media that's causing the "brainrot" that we talk about. That used to be contained to a minority who spent literally all day in the computer. Now practically EVERYONE is chronically online. I want to see the start of a movement where we go back to having like "dumb" flip-phones or like the ones w the sliding keyboard so we can still reach whoever we need to when we need to, but we don't have a constant stream of info and propaganda and terrifyingly custom advertisements in our faces all day everyday. I unironically think that that would be the best way to start to heal society. HMD started pumping out phones like this due to demand, and they're releasing a Barbie-themed pink "dumb" flip-phone in July too that I'm thinking of grabbing. I'm really glad that this website exists too, because the format of older social media is much more human-friendly for lack of a better way to put it.

I'm with you 1000%!! I've basically abandoned all (anti)social media, (which I only reluctantly joined when facebook's Events function started causing anyone who wasn't on Fascbook to be neglected and ostracized IRL.) I still use a 3G flip-phone.
I find texting annoying and would love to go back to just phone people and hanging out IRL. I do have a number of close internet-based friendships - including a long-distance poly partner - I don't want to lose though, which has made extricating myself difficult. I'm not starting up any significant new long-distance friendships / relationships and eventually one day will pull the plug and go back to the way things were in the early 1990s.
It was so much less stressful then, and we all had more capacity for more important things.
