These last two weeks have been great for me in terms of getting used to studying Japanese as it finally feels like a natural part of my routine. I have been studying it at the end of the day before bed and I've been finding myself looking forward to getting home from college or work and sitting at my computer studying. It took a lot longer than I expected to get to this point. I'd just been forcing myself to study and I had been struggling a lot with motivation to continue but these last few days especially I've began to find it feeling quite therapeutic and like a normal part of my day.
I've started to do an hour of immersion daily these past few days (so 3 hours total so far). I've just started watching thru one piece as well as watching a couple of youtube videos. I've created a new youtube account attached to a new email where I'll only watch Japanese videos so that when I'm watching Japanese content I'll be unlikely to be distracted by anything in English. I probably should have started immersing in the language a lot sooner also but I wanted to prioritize making sure I stay consistent in my studies over anything else. I don't understand anything at all at the moment really but that should improve over time as I get more used to the language and increase my vocabulary.
I haven't learnt many new words yet but I've started reading thru Tae Kim's grammar guide to help me get a better grasp on grammar since I know very little. It has a lot of example sentences and I'm going to start making anki cards for some of them because I think it'll help my over all understanding of the grammar points as well as being a great source of vocab because I'm not yet good enough for finding my words thru immersion to be useful to me.
My kanji studies have been going alright too. I haven't much Improved the rate that I'm learning kanji or how much time I'm spending learning them really but I'm still learning more kanji every day and reviewing the anki cards I make for them daily so I'm continuing to make progress.
I've learnt how to write a total of 716 kanji using RTK so far and 109 of them were learnt in these past 2 weeks. I spent 15.5 hours studying these last 2 weeks plus the 3 hours of immersion. I've now spent just under 56 hours studying Japanese in total. I will be continuing to track how much immersion I do as I go on also.
Bye and thanks for reading!!
