"Jeremy Heere is your average high school dork. Day after day, he stares at beautiful Christine, the girl he can never have, and dryly notes the small humiliations that come his way. Until the day he learns about the "squip." A pill-sized supercomputer that you swallow, the squip is guaranteed to bring you whatever you most desire in life. By instructing him on everything from what to wear, to how to talk and walk, the squip transforms Jeremy from geek to the coolest guy in class. Soon he is friends with his former tormentors and has the attention of the hottest girls in school. But Jeremy discovers that there is a dark side to handing over control of your life--and it can have disastrous consequences."

Notes: It wasn't the worst book i've ever read, but it wasn't the best, either. I haven't read it in quite awhile but I remember one specific scene with a nipple piercing that haunts me to this day. I believe Ned is a great writer and one of his other books is in my bookshelf, so I know that his potential isn't limited to this one book. Aside from this, this is the kind of book you'd only be interested in if you like the musical, which i was heavily obessed with when i read it as a kid. It gives more context to the musical, but i can imagine it being a very shocking book for those who don't already know the contents of the Be More Chill universe and how they use a certain level of shock humor in it.

:oooo you mention having read one of Ned's other books, do you mind saying what it is and/or reviewing it? The only book of his that I've read was It's Kind Of A Funny and while I do enjoy it since the book hits home for me, I have some personal gripes with it.
though, it's been a while since I last fully reread it tbhI've never read BMC but I've also heard okay-ish reviews on the book :oI don't think the guy's a terrible writer at all, but from reading that one book of his, I feel like there's parts of his writing that just aren't for me. So, it'd be nice to hear a potentially more positive review on his other books; maybe I'll read another one myself
the book was 100% "It's kinda a funny story" and I haven't made it all the way through yet. I'm putting it on my shelf of books to read next so i can review it!

WOW what perfect timing lmao I was planning to comment on the review some time ago but then I forgot DDDD: might as well type it here lolol
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I really gotta reread the book so I can properly discuss it lmao but I do remember that, yup, it is definitely an emotional book. Despite its flaws, it tackles its main theme very well and Craig's inner thoughts, especially in regards to his depression, is very well-written in both expressing the disorder itself while also taking into account who Craig is as a person (his age, his emotional maturity, etc.).
And returning back to this blog ALSO reminds me that, funnily enough, there's a musical on this book! It isn't too popular, especially when compared to BMC, but there's apparently YouTube vids that have all the songs from it :0 I haven't seen the actual musical and I have no idea if the full thing is on YouTube though u_u... Still, some of the songs are pretty catchy! I personally like Too Many Questions
yeah ok your review totally made me actually want to reread the book again LMAO
