I forgot u guys have summer break

It just occurred to me that for a lot of u American folk on here u guys are gonna have summer break pretty soon. I don’t know why but as someone doesn’t live in the US, the idea of being away from school for about three months just seems surreal to me. I have been away from school that long but it was more for personal reasons that mainly involved moving and that sort. There was also the pandemic but I wouldn’t count that. The longest I have as a break is for about a month which I used to have in December before a new school year started the according month but Covid set things back so the dates have sort of shifted since then but it’s supposed to go back to normal in a couple years (I will however be out of school by then.

I know for some people they get temporary jobs during summer or go to camp but it seems that for a bunch of people the reality is rotting away at home until the season ends. I grew up watching a lot of American movies/shows and for a lot of them summer has always almost been the default time setting for when it takes place. This fictional dream of going on adventures, meeting ur soulmate which you’ll never see again, spending time with the friends u love, as a kid that felt like all I ever wanted but of course it never came to be. The world seems a lot less colourful now once you’re actually the age of the characters you wanted to be so bad when you were young. Things can still be fun but not all of us are lucky enough to experience that. Who needs that anyway, we have the Internet! Right? Well the truth is you can’t really deny your starvation for social interaction. You can’t sit all day behind a screen watching coming of age movies and logging them into Letterboxd. You have to go out and “socialise”. Whatever that means. How should I know, if I did I probably wouldn’t be here. 

All this time we’ve been trying to reach concepts of what an ideal summer is but the sun hasn’t shone that bright since the 2010s so why even bother. No more inflatable pools or making friendship bracelets on a green patch of grass, nowadays you’d rather stay inside instead.
