Spacehey vs MySpace: A design comparison...
I think it's most fair to compare Spacehey to MySpace circa 2006. That comparison would've been a little more relevant last year when I first made it, because at the given time, it was 3 years after both sites' launch (and its now going to be 4 years for Spacehey...) but I'm still sticking to it since MySpace was more simple and also finally had the logo sit plain rather than be in the white box. I tried my best to find references from 2006, but some things were just not available.
DISCLAIMER:
These photos were all taken on mobile with the browser set to desktop-mode, so both sites are not supposed to be displayed so compact. That being said, the images are also not the best quality since my phone obviously can't capture all pixels from that distance. Lastly, a lot of the MySpace photos were taken from the Wayback Machine, so a lot of things that were originally there couldn't load.

There are so many features I wish SpaceHey had! I think it'd be great to have the advanced search for users and "add to group", features this site is already working on. Not to mention having it come closer to MySpace overall.
That will take time, naturally. SpaceHey and MySpace are incomparable afterall. MySpace has a company, the site gets to do business, make money, and add all the extra features! SpaceHey is a non-profit site almost single-handedly run by a full-time university student.
I think we should be incredibly grateful to have SpaceHey in the first place.
I'll be updating this blog over time, as I find more references. I do have some saved that I haven't added, but I just wanna focus on getting it done since it is not easy adding that many photos. Kudos and comments are really appreciated.

As someone who's only ever been on SpaceHey and modern-day MySpace, this is really cool to see! The fact that you could specifically search for single people on MySpace is wild, though, LOL. Kind of creepy.
yep! and haha I kinda agree. myspace was a bit more personal that way, there were many options to use it for dating

Great job!! looks like you put some real work into this, very nice.
Yeah i miss that feature MASSIVELY. the advanced search with so many options, and being able to look for people in an area and even for key words they might use,
Despite being so introverted, i actually met a few people and made some really good friends back in those days purely through that search engine!
But even more importantly, it opened up my music horizons SOOOO much being able to look for EVERY band in a genre, even down to where they are located!,
which gave so many under the radar musicians so much more traction in those days, you could look up your city, or a city near you,
you favorite genre,
and EVERY band in that area or near it fitting the description would be in a big list for you to look through and listen to music on their page,
it was a magical time.
I will forever hate facebook with all my soul for ruining the great time that was myspace. it was life changing fr.
thank you so much!! and ugh that sounds awesome, it would totally be a lot of help for me. whenever I look up my city here, there's just spam advertisement posts, it sucks. having music profiles here would also be so cool and helpful. while there are some here, you can't find them easily or in bulk, though. also, since you were on myspace, you can lemme know if there are some errors and things I can add or change

Seems like both sites are very simular. I wish i was a teen in 2005 to use myspace, but it’s cool here too
they definitely are! and yeah, me too! I think while they look similiar, it's kind of a different experience

the fact that we as bloggers cannot be up-to date w blogs and topics is pretty much normal, since we too, as artists do, have creative-block or those gaps where we'd get bored of our regular themes/topics and try something new or come back to some "shit-posting" that is fun posting to us actually
and tbh bloggers like us should get more recognition fr!!!! it's not cool only negative/contraversial stuff to be on the top blog section tbh....
