First, it blooms.
And then consumes.
When does light begin to burn?
The flame once sought, we seek to spurn?
The warmth of heaven, the heat of Hell
both draw power from this well....
The heart of Christ, enwreathed in flame
trapped in Passion for his claimed,
as any sinner lies enchained.
Immolation.
Candles at the feet of saints
adding lift to prayers and plaints,
to float them into grace.
Yet the torch that lights our way to gain
held too long becomes our pain.
To light is to see, as to know is to burn.
Moths to candle, those that yearn.
To touch the fire is to learn;
and learning thus dies on the pyre
when sacrificed to our Bonfire.
Eternal Flame, in heaven or hell -
Who's so(u)l, in thrall, can really tell?
Fueled by love, fueled by hate
ALL in its essence, a dual-ing fate
fire fighting fire.

I really do have to say I'm surprised that no one else really relates to this one. It's one of my favorites.
Easily summed up - "ignorance is bliss" vs. "blessed light, giving sight, warmth, and knowledge".
Fire, he source of light and heat (and knowledge, metaphorically) viewed through the filters of "good" and "evil".
