Hi everyone, I recently learned of this site the other day, and decided to make an account.
A problem I’ve already encountered is the vast majority of the userbase here seems to be under 18. I assumed I’d be one of the youngest here at 24 (barely old enough to remember the MySpace era), however the opposite seems to be the case.
Of course teenagers deserve their own spaces online too, and it would be rather silly of someone still as young as I am to act superior. All that said however, I’m still rather uncomfortable interacting with minors outside of an educational setting. Feels a bit wrong and creepy, in addition to the gap between older Gen Z/young Millennial and later Gen Z being rather significant due to advancements in technology, etc.
Is this not the platform for me? Genuine question and not meant to be inflammatory, honest! I’ve seen some adults of course, but the amount of very young teenagers (13/14) dwarfs them in comparison. Makes me feel old. e_e

maybe people are yearning for an internet/ a social media site that isn't as controlled/uniform as your average, conventional social media sites. the internet was a lot more free in the 90s and 2000s, which brought along many good things, but also, of course, had its drawbacks. I mean, look at the amount of raids and gore accounts on spacehey, which is relatively free compared to sites like instagram. When it comes to nostalgia, people seem to ignore the bad sides that came with having an unmoderated, uncontrolled internet and look at the internet of the 2000s through rose-tinted glasses. They only introduce the kids that see nostalgia content to the good side of the 90s-2000s internet without warning them of the dangers. What I find somewhat uncanny is that people as young as 11 are on this site- at 11 I was making paper crafts. I suppose that's just how gen alpha is growing up.
apologies if my ramblings are incoherent lol

You’re definitely not alone. Being in my early 20s it’s been a little difficult to find people my age. I suppose it’s how the website was marketed. A lot of younger generations enjoy the fact they can experience a website that they weren’t around for, which I can’t blame them. Also the fact that teenagers usually have more time to be online, and more of a reason to want to be online, means you’ll see more teens than adults (I mean look at me, college and work take up the majority of my attention).
But! This doesn’t mean it’s the wrong platform for adults. I’ve found a good amount of people around the 20-30 something ages.
What I find is that when you come across a profile of an adult, usually their friends are also in the same age range. Just a way to find other people around your age.
To make myself comfortable, I set hard boundaries on my profile. I have a rule in my intro post that specifically says ‘DNI MINORS’. I say that I don’t friend anyone under 18, and that I prefer to see profiles with their age in their profile.
It’s totally possible, but I understand it can be frustrating when you first start on this website.

There's definitely people in their 20s here! I joined close to a year ago (@_@) and it's the first social media site that's CLICKED for me. I've met so many cool people on here... but it was a lot easier when I was starting out. There were still kids but, since it was a pretty niche site, there hadn't been enough time for a lot of drama to develop.
I've found it's easiest to find people in the demographics I'm looking for by going through the friends lists of people that seem cool-- the teens, the younger adults, and the adults who are old enough to be nostalgic mostly keep inside of their own bubbles.
But honestly, it might not be worth it to start fresh these days U_U sometimes people will spam-create profiles with pretty gnarly real life pictures of gore for a few days at a stretch, and there aren't many mods. Many of the people I know on here, myself included, have modified the website with browser plugins to hide Cool New People entirely. When I started, if a cool-looking person around my age made a new profile I'd be on it pretty quickly. These days I'm sure there are plenty of incredibly neat people I've missed, and who got so little engagement that they probably never came back.
So: if this place clicks for you, that's great! If it doesn't, don't feel bad. If you like the creative HTML coding-customizing aspect, consider making a personal site with something like Neocities! The community there is loose and mostly impersonal but pretty nice. Though, I can't think of another normal social media site that lets you find people so easily and keep your posts private to those new friends. Good luck, whatever happens!

Felt this! I'm gonna be turning 26 in a few months ;-; I feel so old seeing all these kids here. Tbh, I've blocked a bunch of ppl just to avoid interactions with them. I have nothing against younger folks being online but I definitely don't feel comfortable with them being on my page

i totally understand, i dont log onto here much due to the same issue.. im turning 19 this year and the idea of hanging out with a bunch of kids who havent graduated highschool kinda.. idk freaks me out? im not a sexual or mature person even around people of my age demo, but i feel like ive reached an age where hanging with a bunch of kids just isnt what i need to be doing

27 here, give the kids a chance.
half of them seem to legitimately want to live through what myspace had to offer in the past.
fuck the other half though

i'm 18, i don't see adults more often on here. I wish more adults used this site more like minors do so it's fair game for the demographic.

I get where you're coming from! Im pretty sure the reason why there are so many teens on here is because recently the 2000s/ y2k nostalgia has become very popular, due to tiktok and youtube which a lot of teens are on. Im 15, and not having grown up in that era makes me feel like I missed out so I come here to try and have a similar experience. But this is really a space for anyone!! For people who want to relive their teen days and for people who are currently in them. (Thats just my perspective tho so i cant speak for everyone lol)

yeahhh im 18 and the amount of younger teens here is kinda wild, all the top blog entries are almost always drama posts as a result of it. I've seen plenty of adults here too, so i'm sure you can find your people! it just might be more difficult. i used to be in the younger scenemo child demographic which is like the main demographic here, but i've matured since and i've still had a good time here. I like to browse the blogs and chat with people.

as a teenager myself i was also surprised to see the amount of 13-14 year olds on here, but no i dont think you're the wrong demographic!! also this is off topic but i saw in your profile that you like to draw & write (so do i!!) i bet your art & writing is so good i would love to see it if you ever post it here :D

Haha, it’s funny you also found it odd! I guess Y2K nostalgia becoming trendy all over again is the culprit. It makes me feel very old to see stuff I grew up with described as “retro” tbh. A kindergarten kid I tutored recently pretended a toy block of his was a phone. It dawned on me how different things are when he didn’t “dial” a number and put it up to his ear. Dude just kept “scrolling” in silence. x_x
Also thank you very much for believing in my artistic abilities. Maybe one day I’ll be bold enough to post stuff here, I appreciate it haha. At the very least I’m much better than when I started a decade ago, so don’t give up and have fun creating things! It’ll always be worth it in the end, trust me. <3
