My review of Late Night with the Devil

My first post in a while but this is my honest review of the movie, Late Night with the Devil, directed by Cameron Cairnes and Colin Cairnes. I just got done watching this with a friend of mine so here we go.

Plot: The plot is fairly simple. A live television show in 1977 dabbles into the occult without understanding what they're getting themselves into. It goes horribly wrong and I wont' spoil it but I was NOT expecting things to go from 0-100 so quickly. I wish the movie did more but with the budget they had, it was phenominal.

Characters: Again, I wish they did more with the characters. The main character, Jack was very likeable despite the numerous selfish actions that caused him to shoot himself in the foot at the end. All the side characters had less depth and sort of tried fitting a stereotype imo.

Run time: For 93 minutes, this movie did not hesitate to put filler in. Everything felt well put together and was quick about it too, like an actual talk show in some places. This is one of the rare times I enjoyed it.

Aesthetics: I love how they used the 70's talk show aesthetic to their advantage and my god, I'm obsessed!! I dont think they could've done any better. It was perfect.

Effects: 10/10 theres not much to say without spoiling it but the practical effects were phenominal!!

Overall Rating: A solid 9/10. It's almost perfect if not for the fact they didn't flesh out a lot of the characters nor built upon the plot a bit more. It was still a breath of fresh air from other horror movies I've watched.
