Some of my friends and I like to just send each other instagram reels throughout the day and we just reply with haha or double tap it to give it a ♥️.
Well, a while ago my friend sent me this reel that was a meme that said: honestly with all that’s going on this is me. It was a video of this drag queen being interviewed and she was asked about her beliefs and to that she replied: K!ll everyone now, condone first degree murder, advocate c@nnibalism, eat $#!+!
I was sitting in the back of class on my phone watching it since I was done with my work and I literally almost shat myself laughing. Thank god I didn’t.
Anyway, at lunch my friend and we laughed about it and they then told me that they looked it up and it was from this x rated film from the 70s called “Pink Flamingos” and if I thought that clip was crazy that was probably some of the tamest parts of it.
That night I told my brother about this and he told me he’d give me $100 dollars if I could obtain a physical copy of the film, watch it at home in it’s entirety in one sitting without getting caught, then hide the copy around the house for one month, changing the spot every three days also without getting caught. If I did get caught, I’d accept any given punishment and I won’t get the money. He also wouldn’t go down with me should I get caught.
I’ll admit it seemed tempting, but not worth the risk and trauma from watching such a film at only 16. Plus, how would I even get a copy? My brother suggested the library. I told him there’s no way the library would have that. He looked it up and against all odds, there were six copies in our local library system. If I were to actually take it, I could’ve probably pulled it off with getting a copy as I live a walkable distance from a library, and I could just order the dvd and some books from the other library and have it taken there. Also, I could technically get it from the library despite my age as the library’s policy states that they are not responsible for what they loan to minors, as the parents should approve what they take out.
Here’s the thing tho: I was really young when I got my library card, so my mother’s phone number is on it and not mine. So with my luck they’ll call and be like “Hello, Ms. Jensen, your copy of Pink Flamingos and (insert any old book) have arrived so you can come over and pick them up!” Instead of just sending me an email (I had an email when I got the card so my email is on there).
So I felt really guilty and dirty for even CONSIDERING this. But this whole this was so absurd I just couldn’t stop laughing about it. The next day at school, I told my friend about the bet and they said they’d also give me $100 if it worked out. One of my other friends chimed in. She said that if I was so worried about the library part, she could actually get me a copy and she’d give me $100 minus the cost of getting a copy since she was 18 and could actually buy that kinda stuff.
So in the end, after seriously considering it, I decided not to do it as it just wasn’t worth the risk, and when I told my English teacher about the bet, she said that she saw the movie in college and that she is still scarred from it and that I shouldn’t even watch it when I’m of age. And she loves weird old b-movies and horror stuff.
I still thought the whole thing was frickin hilarious and decided to tell my mom about it and really emphasize that I thought it was all stupid and I never accepted. She said that if the library called about it she’d have no idea what they were talking about and that if I did that, she probably wouldn’t have noticed. Then she sternly said that if I ever actually did do that now knowing what it was I would be in so much trouble.
So she never knew about the movie and I probably would’ve gotten away with it if I followed through! That’s nearly $300 I could’ve gotten but went right down the drain! Seriously tho I’m glad I didn’t accept as that small clip I saw was already pretty crazy and even then I still kinda regret it.
