Retail Sucks/Companies Have Never Cared For You

So this week with my workplace, I was given (wait for it) 0 HOURS. Next week, I was also given the same thing. Same thing happened to me this year for a month and a half. At this point, I am fed up with the inconsistency for hours in retail. It's always about making cuts to "save profits", then you wonder why you're short-staffed and it's harder to get work done. Cause something they don't understand is that, being short-staffed means you can lose business.

Somehow, people are brainwashed that a company will be loyal to them and can do no wrong. Or they automatically assume it is a "You" problem, if you're not getting hours. They really want to assume hard work, dedication, and loyalty "pays off". How does it make a person feel good to be overworked and underpaid?!

Once I was talking with a co-worker about finding a new job, because of the inconsistent/lack of hours I get. His response was "But what if you go somewhere else and it's the same thing?". Yeah true... however, his tone sounded like "Just talk to them about it." Even those who put up a stink still don't get much. Plus, this co-worker of mine is full-time, which means they will get their guaranteed 36-40 hours per week. Or once I was chatting about favouritism with another co-worker and her response was "What favouritism?". From that interaction I learned "You're not the one who discusses workplace politics, you are the workplace politics." Of course, I didn't say that to her since it could be used against me. Word of Advice: Never give personal/confidential information to any co-workers, especially nosey suck-ups LOL.

Case in point, people having these traditional mindsets of "Just work hard and talk about it, you'll get what you want." Nope, unless you're sucking up, they want to take advantage of hard workers for their gain. Which is why many are stuck in the positions they are in. I am glad to be heading back to school and definitely find a better job that isn't retail.
