lookback by tatsuki fujimoto

I reread look back by tatsuki fujimoto again today after the trailer for the pv moved me so much. I was reminded of how impactful I had originally found the oneshot to be, and on my third read through I can say that it hits me emotionally the same every single time. there's so much to say about it, I'm not sure where to start haha... Fujimoto's art is so gorgeous and simple, and his use of simplicity and linework reflects greatly on the mood of the manga. The contrast between the way the manga looks in the past and alternate timeline versus when Fujino discovers that Kyomoto had been murdered looks so different. The lineart becomes more loose and sketchy, almost like how weak and fragile Fujino feels. The relationship between Fujino and Kyomoto is one of my favorite ones Fujimoto has ever illustrated... I can never truly get over how intertwined their existences are... how no matter what Kyomoto would be inspired by Fujino as a child to pursue art and manga and become a better artist, how even if they never met as kids they would still work together as adults. It's so beautiful to me that despite the hardships of life breaking Fujino down to the point where she almost quit making manga twice she was reminded of why she made art by Kyomoto. I'm very excited to see it be put into a movie... I think from what the trailer has shown the animators and directors are doing an amazing job at honoring Fujimoto's original work and translating it in a way that's full of soul that will inspire thousands more than look back already has... ahh... long blog post... i love Fujimoto he's my goat. Look back is my favorite one shot of his.
