i find the audacity to say that she "wants to create a new genre called 'gay pop'" is disrespectful to the artists in mainly the 80s who tried their hardest to create music for people just like them. and this could 100% be a marketing stunt to get everyone to talk about her, and if it is it's working.
BUT OH MY GOSH ????? like i just find it incredibly disingenuous to just blatantly ignore the most influential gay artists from the 80s. they were in an incredibly different time, and obviously queer people face absurd hate still, im queer myself,, but holy fuck compared to that time we have so much acceptance now. the entire aids epidemic was in the 80s and early 90s so im so insanely sure the demonization of queer and gay people was at an all time high, but these artists continued to create safe spaces with their music. used their music to protest their existence.
whenever i listen to something by Bronski Beat it makes me legitimately sad that some people gloss over the reasoning behind the songs and lyrics. like holy fuck please understand the past of the community you're a part of before claiming something as insane as "im inventing gay pop". and i know gay pop/music in general has obviously been a huge part of the community and media before and after the 80s, but i feel the 80s was such an important time for the community to come together.

Everything thst jojo siwa has been doing is stupid. Everytime you think it can't get worse, she puts out an even more brain dead statement, it's amazing how she still manages to outdo herself in idiocy

i feel like the majority of it is just said or done to make people talk about her, like any publicity is good publicity,, however it's still fucking absurd and unnecessary :p

All publicity is indeed good publicity in the sense that it promotes your work, but I'd rather be underground than be the laughingstock of the entire internet imo

ehh i mean looking throughout her entire career, she's honestly been set up from the beginning to go into that direction:p she's never been taken seriously, even though she was a child for the majority of it, she was never really allowed to branch out into a more mature version of herself as she was growing up so it only makes sense for her image to continuously be immature from an outside perspective yk and for her this is a "big change", but its something the rest of the world has seen millions of times by basically every child celebrity who continued to grow up in the public eye, they just either did it more naturally or kinda became truly infamous and had that "bad girl" image jojo is desperately trying to claim she's phasing into
