why does the word voltage sound so dangerous

lately my hometown has been experiencing multiple power shutoffs that last up to 5 hours each day, even on working hours! so my mom and I decided to buy an UPS, which is a heavy battery to keep the wi-fi router on even when power outages happen... but we both had no idea how to plug everything together ;-;; I spent around 2 hours, reading the manual, trying to get info from YouTube tutorials and it finally works, thankfully the house didn't go in flames in my electrical attempt.
