Romance Movies - The Epitome of trash media

Okay so you are probably wondering why I am writing this, my answer:

I thought of this at 6AM in the morning but didn't have time to write it, so let's jump straight to it.

So, why do I think Romance Movies are the epitome of trash media? Well, it is plain and simple, romance movies portray unrealistic relationships, and silly tropes (love triangles, misunderstandings...etc) along with plain red flags!

I'd like to mention, that I am in no way AGAINST romance movies or people who watch them, neither would I judge you for it if you indulge in those. I also understand that movies are all FAKE, a relationship does not HAVE to be realistic, and usually, the added drama and tropes tend to make it more entertaining.

This is all just what I think since I dislike romance movies and prefer other media, like the Chucky movies (Yes, I'm biased).

Anyway, I personally think that romance movies, ironically, "romanticize" toxic relationships, for example, "Twilight", a movie I never watched, but know the plot of thanks to documentaries.

Basically said, Bella the "I'm not like other girls" trope, is obsessive to please this vampire dude, Edward, the "ooh mysterious vampire guy that doesn't resemble classic vampires and is instead ATTRACTIVE??" (Not in my regards btw, this is just most peoples opinion on the guy). Edward meanwhile is just this red flag, controlling dude.

Now, you think THATS bad? Try "The Vampire Diaries", another thing I refuse to watch LOL.

Basically, there's this love triangle between this Girl Elena, and two vampire brothers, so a love triangle. Naturally, it means that the "tough, both insanely attractive brothers" fight each other over her, leading to possessiveness and jealousy (MORE RED FLAGS), while Elena is the "damsel in distress who cannot make a choice"! Oh nooo what to do? /s

Of course, these are other movies, so surely it got better, especially since today there is more relationship support and less stigma around things like couple therapy, right?

Yeah, you'd be disappointed.

Another movie, one I actually went to watch with my friend, "Anyone but You", is an overall good movie, there is the misunderstanding trope. The trope that always makes me go "JUST TALK ALREADY" because so many problems sprout from a small misunderstanding. This movie tho, does not bother me as the others do.

But yeah, that was basically my opinion on romance movies, feel free to share yours too if you wish, I'm curious.
