A Day in the Life- A Positive Ending to A Hero’s Death

Isabella Wiley

“1 2 3  Clear,”. There’s nothing. “Ok again, 1 2 3, Clear.” “Wait, I’m getting a pulse,” I hear the doctors say as I wake up from death. I breathe my first breath of my second chance of life. After all the doctors finish the tests, 2 people enter the room. One had been there when I was revived, but the other wasn’t and is a child. I look over at them and immediately know who they are. My husband and my child. I start to cry.  “Mommy, are you going to be able to come home now?” Claire asks. “Not today, but soon,”  I reply. “I thought you were gone,” my husband says as he walks over and kisses me.  “Honestly, I did too,” I state. “Mommy, we made you something,” Claire walks over and hands me a bag she had been holding. I open it and start to cry more. It was a clay dog, but not just any dog, it was our family dog. I can tell that my husband and Claire worked hard on it. “Wait what day is it” I ask. “It’s July 22nd. You were emitted on the 18th. You should be coming home in a few days” my husband smiles at me. I immediately knew what day I would be back home but I couldn’t tell him that since it would be on his birthday. A few days pass and I get out of the hospital. It’s the 24th. Just the day I thought I would get out. No one was here to get me, I didn’t want the doctors to ruin the surprise for my family. I call over the Washington State taxi and it drives me to the small town that we live in. I walk down the street. I see a squad car pull up. “Bell, you’re alive?” I hear a familiar voice say. It was my TA. “Back from the dead” I reply. “Need a ride back to your house” my TA asks me. “That would be amazing,” I say. I get in the car and he drives me to my house and drops me off. There are cars lined up on the road of my husband’s friends. I get out of the car and thank my TA for taking me home. I walk up the front steps and knock on the door.  My Husband answers the door. As soon as he sees me his face lights up. He swoops me up in his arms and kisses me. He sets me down and asks, “What are you doing out early?” “Well it’s the 24th right?” I ask. “Yes, but how did you manage to get out?”  “I pulled a few strings,” I reply. We walk in and Claire spots me. She runs up to me, “Mommy you made it. I knew you would make it for Daddy’s birthday!” My husband kisses me and I know this chance at life is going to be worth it.
