if university has taught me one thing it's that doing it as an occupation can make you hate it. a lot of my stuff is literature and writing courses, both topics that i have a burning love for, yet the incredible workload has made it difficult just to form any set of sentences eloquently or engage in recreational reading. not to mention the issue (at least, in american universities) of prerequisite classes being the most dreadful experiences. as much as i love STEM, the prerequisites i've taken have ruined it so deeply that i can't see myself ever doing it outside of hobbies. for being such an expensive endeavor, the university experience blows.
brutal blight of backend burnout

not being able to follow your passion is hell, yet
following your passion will be hell too,
there's no real answer

even with the burnout it's worth it (at least in lit), imo. the workload is nuts but some of my favorite projects came from my literature courses too so it's just a gnarly tradeoff
