Melatonin - Sometimes grasshoppers, katydids, or other bugs like them can have a pigment that turns them pink c: They aren't as rare as you'd think, and when this does happen females are usually pink and green at the same time (striped or sometimes just separated by body segments), while the males are often solid pink. It's unclear if this is a genetic mutation or something due to environment since they can't find a direct gene that would cause it from what I've read, but mostly it's believed to be so.
